  • Update on mobile phone saga. I have cancelled the upgrade and am sending the new phone back. I've also cancelled the existing contract that is due to run out at the end of Feb. I'm keeping my old phone and getting a sim only deal that is much better value. Thanks to DS who sorted me out. I would have liked a new phone, but don't NEED one as the old one is still perfectly fine. Had a little wobble there, but continuing on the MSE road. And popped into hairdressers on the way home on the off chance they could fit me in for a quick wash and blow dry. Small treat to self. Staying off the wine too. Saving calories as well as money.
Going to make stuff this afternoon in my newly organised craft room. Looking forward to a lovely day.

  • I only use my phone as a phone so always go for a cheap deal and use it till it falls apart. I got 7 years out of the last one.

  • After much thinking and mulling I appear to have come to a change in strategy re paying off the debt. Originally, when I first started last year, I just wanted it out the way as soon as possible and tried to pay as much as I could. That, as the months have gone on, has left me struggling every month to survive to the end on pennies. Now the predators have agreed to stop interest and charges and the debt is reducing and not growing, I think I can afford to pay it off slower, save up as much as I can and after I have acquired a decent buffer fund, I can start to overpay on the mortgage as that is now the only debt that is incurring interest. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm not going to be able to touch the pension for another two years, so can't reduce work hours till then. Two years of mega frugalness here I come.

    Hi HB,

Whilst it is quite a long way away, I sometimes wonder if retirement is all its cracked up to be. If we didn't have irritating bosses and all of that, I am sure something would step into their irritating place :rotfl:!!

Its all down to health, the way we feel about everything but it is a bit of a relief to see you soldiering on :)!! From the point of view of debts / mortgage and finances it has to be the best thing but you must keep it all under review as health and well being is the most important thing!

Why are you 'Historybuff?' Are you an expert - is it a hobby?

  • Hey, Brogden. I just have a big interest in history. Family and local history and British history. I love researching and ferreting out a story. That's me.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who ponders user names. Sometimes I don't see the obvious though e.g seanymph is obviously a marine creature to all but me who grew up where a number of people were called seany. I had assumed that the mph related to a speed fiend called Sean!

Hehehe, would let on about why this is my username, but do a lot online and it would give me away - already think I might know who someone on here is in RL (I take online bookings locally so hear from a lot of people and this mse-er seems to use the same e mail as username.). Moral dilemma, do I tell an mse-r I recognise their online name. I've met mse-famil and OH and they are truly lovely ppl. And will have no idea mse- er posts here. They will equally have no idea I'm here. I look quite rich, but I have debt no one else sees.
This is bugging me so views appreciated
