Mobile Data Bolt-On Costs for all networks?

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. Hope you are all well. Anyhow, onto business. My mobile contract is due to finish at the end of March. So I am in the market for a new contract soon.

What I would like to know is the cost of each Networks Contract Mobile Data Bolt-on's, as I have not found this information easy to come by. I am currently on O2, so I know that my mobile data costs £3 for 100Mb, and £6 for 500MB, per month.

I don't use mobile data at all, I cancelled it as soon as I got my current phone to save me £3 pounds a month. So I'd like to know the other networks data costs so I can factor in the saving of not using mobile data when deciding which new contract to take out.

Hope people can help, Thank You.

I might be missing something, but what you say makes no sense to me.
For any contract you pay the fixed price that includes some data allowance. You cannot 'save' by not using the data. A bolt-on can be added on the top of contract allowance at extra cost.

If you want a sim-only deal without data just say how many minutes and texts you actually need.
  • If you can say how many minutes/texts you use, someone will be able to point to the best plan for you!
  • Yes, you are missing something.

I took out an O2 contract almost two years ago, it came with 100MB of data allowance, which costs an additional £3 per month.

I cancelled it straight away and I save £3 a month, as I don't use mobile data at all.

So I am asking what other networks it is possible to do this on when taking out a contract and what the cost reduction would be.

Grumbler is not missing something, it's the way you asked the question, yes O2 offered data bundles in the way you described, the other networks don't necessarily do it that way.
Overall you require some airtime which may consist of talktime, texts or data in varying amounts.
So basically you require airtime that cover your preferred usage for minutes and texts a a price you are content with (always subject to rpi increases always read the T&Cs).

This is rather like asking how much of the price factors in the rental of their high street shops, and assuming that you can therefore get a discount since you're not planning on visiting the one in Peterborough ;)

You simply need to figure out how many calls and texts you make, and compare the different tariffs for the best one that covers what you need. If the cheapest tariff also includes some data, then that's just the way it is.
  • How many minutes and texts do you need and do you need a new phone? If you need a new phone are you wanting it as part of the contract or to buy it outright to save money?

Tell us this and we will tell you the best prices. Chances are the lowest price will include data and be a fair bit cheaper than O2 without it.

Yes, this is exactly what I am wondering, as O2 allows you to cancel your data allowance to make a monthly saving, so which other networks allow you to do this? In fact, do O2 contracts always have data added as a bolt-on which you can happily cancel?

I could happily get by with 50 mins and 100 texts a month so that is not an issue for me and I want the phone free, so no upfront costs. I am targeting the best phone I can get for a around £10 a month. At the moment I have got my eyes on a Samsung Galaxy S3 as I have seen some refurbished contract deals going around.

Today's search has led me to three deals...

    Free S3 + 100 mins + unlimited texts + 0 data for £11 a month with Vodaphone.

    Now O2 deals...

    Free S3 + 100 mins + unlimited texts + 250MB data for £14 a month with O2.

If the 250MB of data is a bolt-on, it can be knocked off and save £3 ? a month, coming to £11 ? a month, the same as Vodaphone. (Not sure how much a 250MB bolt-on is.)

    Free S3 + 300 mins + unlimited texts + 500MB data for £17 a month with O2.

If the 500MB of data is a bolt-on, it can be knocked off and save £6 a month, coming to £11 a month, the same as Vodaphone. It would also be the best deal, getting 300 mins instead of 100 mins for the same cost.

My reasoning is from my selection of Bolt-ons on my O2 account.

The Basics data - 100MB (£3.00 per month) <- that's what my contract came with and I cancelled to save £3 a month.

The All Rounder data - 500MB (£6.00 per month)

That's the information I need to make a good decision as these deals change a lot and my contract actually ends around the 30th of April so plenty of time to decide.

I'm not aware of any other companies letting you cancel the data to save money in this fashion. I certainly can't do it on my Orange contract.

If what you want is a cheap monthly cost, have you considered Ovivo (http://www.ovivomobile.com/ovivo-offers/) - you pay £20 up front, but then get 250 minutes, 300 texts and 500MB data per month, for a monthly cost of £0. You'd have to get the S3 separately, but it could be worthwhile.

So not orange then, thank you.

If I don't end up choosing a new phone contract deal, I will certainly go for Ovivo instead.

    None of them.

The contract comes with what is stated and you take it or leave it at the price offered.
