Flossy-splodge, the Facetime app on Apple is just their version of the video messaging services that I used on my old Nokia.

There are other programs that do what F/T does and then some-

Skype - video, voice and text
Google Hangouts - video calling. can have up to 10 participants in each call
Goober - video & voice calls

Those are just 3 that are available.

Btw, you can get a free launcher app for Android tablets/phones that make them look/behave just like an iPhone/iPad (it won't run iOS apps though). You can get an iOS app that allows you to run Android apps on an iPad/iPhone (the basic underlying O/S is so similar that they are 99.9% code compatible).
    Never Knowingly Understood.

    Thats really helpful, thank you.
Can you use them to do the equivalent of Facetime but to an iphone user?
    Thanks again.:T

The iPhone users would have to put the same app on their phones, whether it be Skype, Google Hangouts etc. These are free to download, so the only thing would be to speak to those you will be contacting and arrange a suitable app for you all to use if you go down the android/Windows route.

I use Facetime to call some of my family who have Apple products, and use Skype to call those who don't.

Ah, does that mean you can put Facetime on an Android phone? :)

If you want to be able to take it with you then 8" is probably the biggest you want to go, as others have said if you are running an android phone then go perhaps the LG G Pad for £200.

Cheaper alternative, Samsung 8" £130, use codes

I don't know why anyone would want to install a video calling app that you can only use to video call people with a specific brand of device.
