To go the 'i' route or not?

The Tesco Hudl is very good, plus it has HDMI out as well as GPS and BlueTooth. I find it quite fast, good battery life - turn off stuff you do not need.
Also fast enough for VOIP which is handy.
Works well with TOMTOM app, as satnav.
Best email app K-9. I also use it to remote access computers for tech support. You say money isn't an issue, and 'i' products are obviously good, but I've always been of the opinion that they're simply over-priced.
See this months PC Pro for a breakdown of some manufacturing costs .
nexus 7 manufacturing cost circa £160-
ipad air circa £274
Compare with retail and it shows the huge difference in one brands profit margins .
Even Steve Wozniak reckons Android is the future and would like Apple to build an Android phone.
Rumours abound about a new Nexus 10 appearing soon.
Yes, I've begun to hear about this which is one reason i am now in utter confusion! Would it be worth waiting for the new Nexus if I decided to go that route?
Thank you ALL so much for your input, just what i was hoping for.
As to phone, I am about due for an upgrade and could certainly get the latest iPhone on my usage so going for an iPad may not necessarily be an isolated situation.
Both DD's have iPhones and I do like the idea of Facetime as one has just produced my first grandchild and lives too far to visit often. Is there an equivalent feature on any of the others?
Guess I'm gonna have to make my darn mind up!!:rotfl:0 -
7 or 10 inch tablet? If the former, Google Nexus 7?
I want to actually carry it with me but I already have an overstuffed handbag!! so am leaning towards the mini, if either, but notee the additional weight of the air is minimal. Do people REALLY carry the 10" around on a regular basis?:eek:0 -
Some do and look like pillocks taking photos with them. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

This is a money saving forum so you shouldn't even be considering an 'i' anything0

Android all the way for me after so many problems with Apple products. Typing this on a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and I think it's great. I have no problems with battery life.
I got it on eBay as a refurbished unit from Tesco. I can't find anything wrong with it and it was £70 cheaper than a brand new one. A
Android is just so much more flexible and easier to use, and far simpler to deal with if something goes wrong.0 -
I don't think you have any hope whatever of "future-proofing" a tablet purchase, because anything you buy now will be cheaper in a few months' time, and there will be additional and more wonderful features available in a forthcoming tablet device, quite soon.
You can't say that about "mature products" like PCs or laptops (or even yourself, Ms Splodge!).0 -
Left field suggestion, but how about a Windows 8.1 based unit like the Asus T100 2-in-1?
YOu can still use the Windows programs you know from Vista, but move into using tablet apps from the Windows Store0 -

I got really told off for disliking apple stuff and using the word iSheep, but, I can only agree with this ...If you're going to be using an android phone, get an android tablet.
IMHO it's a no-brainer to go Android.
Especially since you've got many options that are both better and cheaper than ipads even ignoring the factor of compatibility with your phone.0
