I'd really appreciate some comments from others about this consideration.
I intend to purchase a tablet.
I cannot for the life of me decide if to go for an iPad or some other brand.
I do not have any other Apple devices.
My current phone is a Nokia but I have a Samsung Galaxy waiting to be put into use.
My laptop is a Medion (best buy ever!) and runs on Vista. (Intending to take up the free upgrade to Win7 when I get round to it ).
So iPad or another and if yes to iPad, a mini or the Air?
Money is not a key issue, I'd rather future proof as much as poss.
Will want to surf, do email and online banking.
Unlikely to game or watch videos.
I do however like to keep in touch with technology and feel a bit of an outsider having no 'i' experience!
Comments please?

I bought a galaxy tablet note 10.1, because I felt it was more compatable than an iPad.
I wish I'd bought an iPad.
The battery life is far better on an iPad.0 -
7 or 10 inch tablet? If the former, Google Nexus 7?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Since you haven't with the phone - doesn't really make sense to jump to iOS now0

I have an iMac as my desktop PC and a MacBook Pro Laptop. I used to have an iPhone 3 but fancied a change so swapped to a Samsung Galaxy S2 and currently the Galaxy S4.
When I bought a tablet it would have made sense to go for the iPad and there's no doubt they are very good, however, my Samsung phones impressed me and I liked them better than the iPhone so I went for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and I love it.
The current memsahib has an iPad so I get to use both and to be honest I couldn't choose one over the other so my advice would be buy the one you want. Having said that every one of my iPad owning friends loves the S Pen that comes with the Galaxy and wishes Apple would release an iPad with a pen!
My only other observation would be that friends who have bought cheap tablets now regret doing so simply because they find them slower than the more expensive ones. Those that bought the Google Nexus are happy so may be worth considering. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
You say money isn't an issue, and 'i' products are obviously good, but I've always been of the opinion that they're simply over-priced.
I think the latest figure I read gave Android 80odd per cent of the phone/tablet market, that's some market share!
'i' fans are very vociferous in their defence of the brand, which of course they are free to do, but when you compare an 'i' item with an Android one of a similar level, there's just so much more that you can do with the Android one.David.0 -
The Tesco Hudl is very good, plus it has HDMI out as well as GPS and BlueTooth. I find it quite fast, good battery life - turn off stuff you do not need.
Also fast enough for VOIP which is handy.
Works well with TOMTOM app, as satnav.
Best email app K-9. I also use it to remote access computers for tech support.0 -

Will you behave.
I'm just off to Tesco for some shopping and I don't have a responsible adult to go with me.
If I come back with a Hudl to play with I shall blame you. :AOne by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

See this months PC Pro for a breakdown of some manufacturing costs .
nexus 7 manufacturing cost circa £160-
ipad air circa £274
Compare with retail and it shows the huge difference in one brands profit margins .0 -
Even Steve Wozniak reckons Android is the future and would like Apple to build an Android phone.
Rumours abound about a new Nexus 10 appearing soon. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Then all your contacts will sync without you having to think about it. All your apps will be ready and waiting for you to install (you can choose which ones to have on each device) and you won't have to pay twice for any of them, and you'll only have to learn one way of doing things.
IMHO it's a no-brainer to go Android.
Especially since you've got many options that are both better and cheaper than ipads even ignoring the factor of compatibility with your phone.0
