    welcome Lixi.
hope everyone gets to enjoy their bank holiday weekend.
Peonie, my employers also want you to take the leave you have accrue at the date you go off on maternity leave before you go, but in my case because I will be back before the end of the holiday year they can be a bit flexible. Only problem is that my manager may not be able to be flexible about when I can take it, ie not in June, not during the last two weeks of Aug and first two weeks of sept :(
counting down the days till our 20 week scan, really hoping that they just find a healthy baby and we find out what team we're on. would also like to be able to see some of the screen this time, just to reassure myself hubby was wrong when he said it had 4 legs! think he's spent too much time with the puppy and cats.

Lixi, I have not found the directive yet. Most information focuses on maternity leave rather than annual leave and accrual when pregnant. I'll keep looking.

I think it may be my first weird pregnancy craving...hubby thinks I am mental and would not let me eat it in front of him so I had to sneak it in the kitchen while I was making his coffee!

My NHS mat leave policy makes no specific mention of annual leave and the annual leave policy makes no mention of mat leave. I am basing on what other people have done.

If anyone has thought this far, for those who work year round have you thought how much before your due date you want? When I said 2 weeks to DH he thought this was unnecessary (he got a telling off there I tell you) but other people say take as much as you can as you will be knackered.

DH has managed to start 3 world war over the bins with next door. It would be funny if it wasn't so stressful. There were verbal threats shouted up by next door to our window to come down and fight and they were going to smash our windows. Sigh. For a man who professes to hate conflict he sure does get into more than anyone I've known. Ever known someone to be chased down the road by a binman because they misinterpreted a gesture to the car behind that the parking bay was further on? He had to explain it was not a gesture inviting said bin man to pleasure himself and not even aimed at him.

    Welcome lixi

t2d - thanks for saying you got that too. Eases my mad mind.

Off to pg yoga for the second time!
    Met DH to be 2010
    Moved in and engaged 2011
    Married 2012
    Bought a house 2013
    Expecting our first 2014 :T

I am technically going to be off for nearly 10 weeks before my due date!! I will finish for summer holidays at the end of July and start my maternity leave from the first of September (due date beginning of October). I had considered going back to work for a week or two in September, and haven't completely decided not to, but it would be a bit pointless as they would not have a timetable for me and I would probably be either hanging around doing not much, or given some boring admin tasks to do or, worst of all, used for cover around the school, which I would hate. So I am not sure. It's just that ten full weeks off before baby is even due to come sounds a bit much - I would go mental at home on my own!

Even if I did work all year round I probably would go off a few weeks before my due date. I guess it depends on money too. I know people who worked literally until they popped so that they could have as long off as possible with the baby.

Thinking about it, I would not think two weeks is enough! It is going to be your last chance in a long time to actually potter round, rest and relax. By that stage we probably won't be sleeping well at night so being able to have some naps in the day would be good - resting as much as possible before baby comes. Really, if you went off two weeks before due date, baby could be early and you could end up having no time at home on your own. I wouldn't like that.

As for the bins...poor you! I hope the neighbours have calmed down. Some people can be so unnecessarily aggressive :(

Im taking my maternity a week before im due, but before that im taking my whole years annual leave entitlement which amounts to approx 6-7 weeks. Our holiday entitlement runs birthday to birthday so I have to take it as I can only carry over 5 days to next years entitlement and im having 12 months off, so if I didnt take it I would lose it...
its also good as my maternity package isnt the best so gives me another few weeks of full pay before the dip to half.
you accure all your usual holiday whilst your off too, so youd have a full entitlement again when you go back.
Obviously if you are taking less than 12 months you could tag it on the end to increase time off that way if that makes sense?

I forgot to add, if I didnt have to take holiday... I would have lumbered work with me until literally until a week before as I wanted all my maternity once baby's born!!
I cant say I would have been any use to anyone....
