I live alone in a not very nice area of my city right next to a throughfare from one bad part to another. I am always very careful to lock everything up but OH bought me a hockey stick "just in case".

OH keeps a certain weapon (I won't mention what it is cos I don't think civilians are meant to have one) next to his bed and I can safely say he does use it in emergencies, like the night I thought I would be a super duper gf and come home a day early from a trip away and surprise him by going round to his and letting myself in with my key! At least I know what his haka face looks like lol!

I remember one night the burglar alarm went off because of a power cut and a dodgy battery. DH slept through it even though he claims he's a light sleeper.

I have no faith in the dog either. I was woken up at 3am by the doorbell ringing (didn't bother getting up to answer) and the dog didn't bark or react in any way.

Guessing if a burglar does come in, I'm on my own. They'd take one look at the mess, decide we've been robbed already, and leave :rotfl:
