I see they use Park Smarter an amalgamation of Derbyshire councils possibly why you cant pay cash.

If you don't want to use the usual methods it looks like its a postal order, or ask a mate for a cheque and give them the cash!

While it's absolutely none of my business, one has to wonder what sort of relationship you have with your other half when you need to keep such a minor thing secret from them.
  • What does it say regarding payment on the ticket?

Most councils do run a payment facility where people can pay cash for example for council tax - maybe they will accept a cash payment at one of those for the parking charge - do get a receipt.

Terms on the ticket would be too late, the contract had already been formed.

Absolutely right, it's none of your business at all, however, since you ask, it's just that I feel such a fool and it represents close on a week's food budget which I will now have to scrimp and save to recoup. I should have put an amount in the budget for such eventualities, I suppose. Ne'er mind, serves me right!

He'd laugh if I told him, but I'd really rather not thanks!

? Contract law - Thornton v Shoe Lane Parking - is irrelevant here. This involves council run parking enforcement.
My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

I was referring to what it said on the ticket about what payment methods were acceptable!

some people I know get the building society (or bank) to issue a cheque and they use that to pay for whatever needs a cheque payment

alternatively, as mentioned earlier you give the cash to somebody and get them to pay it by any means they can use , cheque , card payment etc

I don't want to contest it or anything

Why not? If you're so "worried" about your OH finding out, and the amount is a week's food budget, what's the harm in investigating not having to pay anything at all?

I really don't want it to go through any of my accounts so thought I could just go into the council offices and give them the cash. Seems not.
Would prefer my other half not to know

So the OP has got the means to pay - but seems more afraid her OH knowing - does not bode to well to keep such a trivial thing a secret. Perhaps you should just confide in him and tell him - it is not the end of the Earth.:)

As mentioned in my first post and repeated by BOD - there may be a valid reason to challenge the ticket - eg if an incorrect contravention code is used.

Thanks. The PCN looks fine. It says 'Contravention: parked for longer than permitted' which I was, the times are correct, date, my number plate, tax disc all correct. I was definitely in the wrong so must pay my dues - we can survive on lentil and potato soup for a week without dropping dead!

Rather than a personal issue, which doesn't matter that much, I'm beginning to feel a bit angry that cash isn't allowed - it's the principle! But then, I'm probably just an old fogey!

    Thanks all, goodnight.
