Paying fine with cash

I got my first ever parking ticket today (overstayed 2 hours, completely forgot while I was at work). I want to pay it with cash but my council don't have a facility for this, just cards, cheque, online etc. I really don't want it to go through any of my accounts so thought I could just go into the council offices and give them the cash. Seems not.
Is a postal order the best way to do this or is there another way? Surely not everyone has or chooses to use a card and I know some people don't have bank accounts, what happens then?
Thank you.

Someone more knowledgeable will be along some time in the near future to help, but they will need to know if this was England and Wales, or Scotland Where the alleged incident took place, Private, Council, or on road Who the ticket was from, whether it says Parking Fine or Parking Charge. All of this is very imporant as no help can be given without this, and probably more.
Meanwhile, go to the top of this page and read the Sticky thread for Newbies. You must do this first, then come back here with the information I mentioned above.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

AS this is a council on street penalty charge - you are better off registering this on Pepipoo as they are the experts - copy and upload both sides of the ticket as many can be successfully appealed.

I don't want to contest it or anything, I was wrong, it said 2 hours and I stayed 3. No problem, my own stupid fault for forgetting where I'd parked. It was on street, council ticket.
I just want to know the best way of paying it, without it going through my accounts. You used to be able to go into council offices and pay over a counter but not now.

Have you tried calling them to ask?
Presumably you could get a postal order and send that to them.
Just out of interest, any particular reason why you don't want to pay for this the standard way? In my local council if I pay to park my car by card it shows up as "Parking fine" on my account statement, so it looks like I've had lots of very small parking fines.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Yes I called them and at first they thought you could then checked and told me you couldn't . Would prefer my other half not to know but for whatever reason, surely they should take cash, not everyone has a bank account or cards.
PO it is then it seems. I just wondered if anyone had found some little publicised way of doing it that's all. Thanks.0 -

Hmmm, I would have thought that if you have made an offer to pay in legal tender they would have trouble enforcing. I'd be tempted to complain about not being able to pay cash. I doubt you could create a valid contact which denied your ability to settle a debt in legal tender which is by definition a means of payment that cannot be refused.
Give the council offices a call and complain. They will either explain you have been badly advised and tell you where you can pay, but if they stick to their guns, ask to raise a formal complaint. In part that will prove you wanted to pay.0 -
What does it say regarding payment on the ticket?
Most councils do run a payment facility where people can pay cash for example for council tax - maybe they will accept a cash payment at one of those for the parking charge - do get a receipt.0
