Credit to Ovivo support, my speed's now back to 3.46 Mbps download.
I had to surf the web using mobile data until the Ovivo Now offers page appeared. Then press Continue and normal speed returned.
Had the same message from customer support, tried it and voilà:

    Date and time: 7/2/14 12:59
    Reception strength: 3/5 bars
    Connection: H+
    Server: Manchester
    Down: 3.2 Mbps
    Up: 0.64 Mbps
    Ping: 244 ms

    That's quite OK for me.

    Worked for me too :j

    That's very interesting.

Did a speed test and got 0.05.Opened my browser, clicked thru the ad page, did the speed test again and got 2.0Mbps.

That would suggest I should open my browser and click thru before using any apps that use data to get the faster speed.

Interesting.. I just got the same, but I didn't even click through the ad page, I just let it load and went back to the speed test app and got 2.0Mbps

As the address of the ad page always appears to be now.ovivomobile.com/ I have bookmarked it to avoid having to surf at super slow speed until it shows up again.

Also wondering I could just leave the ad page dormant on a browser tab, just hitting refresh at the start of internet use then moving onto actual webpages in another tab.

Its good news in a way but its still an draconian extra 'faff' just to use the web.

It does seem such an inconvenience for something that you don't pay a monthly fee for :o

After pressing continue on the ovivo now page I had a similar result:

Made no difference to the speed test here either.

I've now left due to this reason.
This was one of my last test results:

    Date and time: 10/1/14 18:40
    Reception strength: 2/4 bars
    Connection: H
    Server:
    Down: 0.02 kBps
    Up: 0.01 kBbps
    Ping: 1865 ms

Made no difference to me. Pre-clicking through and after clicking through virtually the same:

    Date and time:9/2/14 14.47
    Reception strength: 2/5 bars
    Connection: E
    Server: Coventry
    Down: 0.00 Mbps
    Up: 0.00 Mbps
Ping: Between 431 and 666 ms

As I mentioned previously, I rarely use mobile data so for me it's still exceptional value. But for how long if people are not going to use Ovivo Mobile data because of speed problems, and therefore not see the adverts which are supposed to be financing the whole thing?

Using old htc legend as wireless hotspot
    2 bars reception

Very happy with it in the 6 months I've been using it!
