  • Thanks for the advice smlsave :)

I haven't tried her with a cup, and it now seems it's the milk itself she objects to rather than the bottle!

Going to try her again this evening with a bottle of formula as she did take the b/milk last night.

Auugh why is it always such a challenge??!

  • It could be the milk your LO didn't like. Although the ingredients are very similar I think there must be slight differences as my DS would spit 2 milks out, but drank one fine. It also smelled slightly less sweeter than the other two.

I had a similar issue with my lo when my stepdad died, I had to spends 3 days away from baby unexpectedly.
We tried her with formula she refused, I was panicking I was leaving the next morning.
Dh just had to deal with her crying until she drank it, one thing he did do though was let her suck some formula off his finger every so often and said it seemed to help her get used to the flavour.
I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.
  • She didn't want to take a bottle this evening, but I had given her a b.feed fairly recently.

OH doesn't seem worried about the prospect of me leaving him to it for a couple of days..I think she will be ok, now I just have to worry about finding the time/opportunity whilst I am away to keep pumping to keep my supply up/avoid agony!

  • Hi MV, it might be worth trying her with a couple of different types. Mine won't take regular formula (whether powdered or cartons) but will have comfort milk quite happily. She was sick off regular formula a couple of times, and now won't have it at all. She's been having the odd top up of comfort milk when I'm out of ebm for a couple of months now (she's a terrible latch so I exclusively pump). We tried her again with regular formula the other day but she rejected it again, so it's a definite preference for the comfort milk. (She's 26 weeks, so a similar age to yours).

It might be worth a try - unfortunately comfort milk is only available powdered and costs £10.49 for a big tub (£10.41 in the big supermarkets).

    HTH.
  • Hi MV

I'm having similar problems with my lg (20 weeks). She has very occasionally taken a bottle of expressed BM, but refuses all formula. My prob is I'm back to work in a few weeks. I'm trying to pump more but struggling to get enough..next plan is to mix in EBM with some formula, in the hope of fooling her! Hope you are getting on better with bottles!
  • Hey B2B..sorry you are having similar problems. It seems quite a common thing though, so I reckon it's just a case of perserverance! Not easy when you are on a deadline though!

My work trip all fell through yesterday as I missed my flight due to an accident on the road, so turns out I needn't have stressed so much! I was gutted to have missed the trip for a number of reasons, but I guess at least it gives me a bit more time to wean DD off the boob 9I go back to work in June).

I'm feeling it is time anyway as I am finding BF'ing getting increasingly difficult as she gets bigger. She also squirms about so much now and is so distracted, it can be a real wrestling match!

  • Hi MV, I just saw on your other thread about your trip, what a shame!

Been trying LO with a bottle since 11am, gave up about 12 and gave her the boob...it's just so frustrating when she takes the bottle sometimes but not others! I also feel its time to move her onto bottles, especially during the day - I don't mind night feedings so much as it's by far easier to just give her the boob than mess about with bottles when I'm half asleep!

Back to work three weeks today...

Hopefully with June until you need to go back, weaning will be well established by then and feeds will drop accordingly although I know that's not always the case. My LO only had 2 (formula) milk feeds a day at 9 months xx
