  • I haven't started weaning her yet cte as she can't hold herself up too well yet. I was planning on starting when I got back from my trip!

She is 24 weeks now so I guess should be ready to start soon.

You don't even take him seriously,
How am I going to get to heaven?,
When I'm just balanced so precariously..
  • Just tried her again on the bottle and no go. She just started shouting at me and then full on yelling so ended up back on he boob.

Will def try the NUK bottles as many have recommended them.

Part of me is thinking if I did just go on this trip, baby would have to take bottles as surely she isn't going to starve herself?? I guess it's more if OH can deal with the stress of it all (he says he can..thankfully our 3 year old is at nursery for 2 of the 3 days, otherwise it wold be bedlam!)

  • I think she's a clever little poppet then and has worked you out. If I preferred one thing and realised I could get it if I refused the first option vehemently enough, that's what I'd do :-).

I think you're right, when there's only one option, she will take it :-).

  • My mum said the same Guineapig! I think if I do just go, she will have to take the bottle..I can't think that a baby would starve itself..so now I just have to decide if I can bear to just go and leave OH to it...

  • My DD2 was breast fed exclusively until at 6 months I went back to my part time job evenings and 1 full day. She REFUSED to take the bottle - any bottle - but my OH is very laid back and said 'you have to go to work so she'll have to take the bottle from me or starve!' So he put up with the screaming and yelling, she would reluctantly take just enough milk from the bottle to keep her going then I would rush in (with sore boobs!) and we would fall onto the sofa together!
So I would say go on your trip, she'll feed when she doesn't have the choice so long as your OH is up to the battle!
  • thanks, that sounds a bit like my OH! I guess it's just that as I am going to be abroad I can't just nip home in an emergency.

  • I guess we'll keep trying bottles for the next couple of days and I'll make a call on monday. Don't know why the whole thing has made me feel so depressed though :(

Try getting someone else to give her the bottle. My baby would let OH give her a bottle, but wouldn't take it from me as she could smell my milk. Also, you are getting anxious about this (not a critisism) and she could be picking up on that too. Good luck!
  • I had a similar nightmare with my first - the only thing that helped were these types of bottle (different colour than we had & not sure if it is the same but the design looks very similar).

Only worked for the first few very long days if someone other than me fed her whenever I was out of the house. Although she could scream & resist for hours she didn't starve herself & eventually she'd take bottles throughout the day with a last BF from me before bed. Think this was at around 9 months & she finally went to bottle only at 12 months.

Don't be too hard on yourself - & let your OH cope with it all while you go away. Do triple check you have every single part of your breast pump before you go though....

I once didn't pack a spare valve & the original one broke when I was on a busy train (in the lav, not expressing in full view :rotfl:). Never got the hang of hand expressing so spent 3 more hours in agony. I was getting to the point of grabbing any baby & sticking them on just for the relief when OH turned up with DD. Lesson learnt.

    Good luck.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

  • OH has been the one trying to give her the bottle with no luck :(

She's starting to get gripey for a feed now, but I'm holding off to see if OH has any luck with the bottle of expressed milk I did earlier.

Because I've just been feeding on demand, it's hard to know when is the best time to give her a bottle as I haven't been following any pattern.

My gut reaction when she gets grumpy is just to stick her on the boob :(
