Just spoke to the DVLA and paid the fine. The lady said the letters are just a courtesy so it wouldn't be grounds for having the penalty cancelled.

What makes me sad is that
    1. Losing that £40 is probably going to stop me going on holiday now.
    2. I bought a new car a few years ago but no-one actually gives you the administration-related-to-a-car-lesson.. no-one told me about MOTs, no MOT needed in first few years, no-one told me about renewing road tax.

And of course, just like everything in this country, if you make an honest mistake you have to pay up for it.. there is no such thing as discretion anymore.

I know driving comes with responsibility but who actually teaches you those responsibilities?

Im sorry but when i was learning to drive i was made aware of the responsibilities that come with driving like renewing your tax, renewing your insurance, get an MOT done when neccessary, how can anyone tell you about MOT's, the mot is needed when the car is so many years old

I received my notice to renew a couple of days ago (due end Jul) have just gone on their website and tried 3 times to renew using the number THEY have provided - no joy, tried twice on the phone - and again number not recognized.

Aren't those loveable scoundrels at DVLA just wonderful ?

If you rely on a notice for renewal, how do you manage with the MOT?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

You are attempting to relicence to early:-

When to apply for vehicle tax

You can apply to tax your vehicle from the fifteenth day of the month in which the existing vehicle tax is due to expire. The tax disc will come into force on the first day of the following month and should not be displayed on your vehicle until then.

Oh and I can't tax my car until it gets a new MOT. :p

That's because you're an idiot. If you actually read the bit of paper they sent, it says not to apply until the 15th day before it's due to expire.

It's not the DVLA with the problem.

    Another thought for you all.

Will they send out reminders when the 10 years plastic driving licence needs to be renewed?
