Pollycat. Thanks, I agree with most of that.
I think I gave this thread the wrong title, and though it's easy enough to edit text in postings I can't see a way of editing thread titles.0 -

Hope that helps
If you have nothing to hide there is no need to use a proxy server, IMO its a bit sad if you do. I also dont see the need to have a "back up" account, that also suggests something to hide, IMO0 -
What's wrong with having something to hide?
Most people usually hide their real name
Personally, I don't take any forums seriously but if folks want to hide stuff, let them get on with it.Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -
Even newbies sometimes don't know how to post.

Probably not unlike other forums to be fair, but my recent experience of Tripadvisor (on the Bangkok) forum has been a bit disappointing. People asking questions get told to stop asking the same questions and do a search. Also certain subjects seem to be taboo and get a 'what are you doing that for' sort of reply. There's about 5 people who seem to have taken it upon themselves to police the forum. They're probably very knowledgeable, but unfortunately seem to spend a lot of time on there telling people to stop talking about certain stuff instead of ignoring what they can't be bothered with!
That's the difficulty with forums though, people are much harsher than they would be to someone's face, and it's also easy to misunderstand.

The bloke with all the first class postings [LancasterLad] reported the above postings as not only going 'off-topic', but also acting disrespectfully and in a way that had no intention to do anything other than hijack a very informative thread.
Guess what? Poor old LancasterLad, with over 5,000 postings on TA got the big heave from TA. Admittedly it wasn't a one-off, but it's so easy for the good guys to get ganged up on, and that's what happened to poor old LL.
LL now wants to plead his case direct with TA. Anyone know the online route to follow?

Why not ask your mate Michael O'Leary to help ?
You've kissed his behind so often you must be due a return favour.

Be it right or wrong TA states you can only have one account with them so the fact of anyones' account being blocked or suspended for more than one is their choice. The rules are clear and as a DE for one of the forums I know of a number of posters that have had themselves blocked for just that reason.
As to the information being passed on I know that the forums are there to help new holiday makers have a "stress free holiday" but two things I have found over the years, one} is that people asking both basic questions without even trying to search the answers before hand, also expecting the regular posters to sort out the itinerary for one or two weeks when they are not even sure that its the holiday destination they want. two} that SOME regular posters {including DE's} do NOT read the questions correctly before they reply and give incorrect info.
Personally I pick and choose who {and how} I reply to the posters on the forum I support and if I am not happy with either the questions that are repeatedly asked or I see a "troll" reply I just let them carry on, nobody is holding a gun to your head to help out,we do not get paid for our time, we do it to help. The rules are there and if everyone followed then life on TA would be so much easier.0 -

I don't have anything to hide and rarely use a proxy server I was just giving the OP an option

TA is primarily a site to make money for its owners through the use of kickbacks from proprietors to promote good reviews.
It should be basic common sense to use 2 virtual machines with different IP addresses if you want to use more than one account at most websites.
The investment in time to make lengthly helpful posts can give one the mistaken feeling of ownership. Unless the owners of the site are people you have met personally this is very risky.0
