    I've been Money Tipped!
I had a S3 last year that only lasted over a year, in my case I went to check GPS one day and it got zero signal unless in middle of street then it was still weak, I sent it back to Samsung who claimed it was water damage(seals on outside intact) and the damage was severe enough it would be uneconomical to repair, I also had charging issues and noticed green mould or something around the charging port that I scraped off with no luck, similar that it would take all day if not a whole day to charge despite me having 3g and data disabled and it normally lasted a week and took about 3 hours to charge instead of dying in a few hours.

I noticed online a fix for mine that involved removing all screws , wiping the board with a microfibre cloth and tightly screwing the 10 or so screws back, at same time I wiped the connector of the charger and wiped a cloth with a single drop of WD40 on it over the boad and charger, after that gps came back perfect and charging was perfect.

So their water damage claims are just lies really, I was told on developer boards that there is 2 UK repair centres, one is notorious for sending things back as not covered by warranty to make money and another repairs phones with no hassle its the luck of the draw.

It's not lies, your phone was clearly affected by moisture. Yes, you've managed a cheap fix, but a repair centre has to do a proper job.

Thats wrong as they all use the Samsung check sheet for repairs .
Dont take notice of idiots that post on developers boards most of the posters are clueless .
  • Okay so I've had a reply from their social media team and they're sticking to their guns that it's not covered by warranty.

Obviously I'll be leaving O2, complaining to Trading Standards, complaining to the Financial Ombudsman Service, posting all over social media and forums about this disgusting service etc. etc. Any other ideas?

Then last week I received a voicemail from the Vodafone service centre saying that the phone was "water damaged", that the manufacturer's warranty was therefore invalidated, and I would have to pay £190 to have the phone fixed.
Consider £190 a bargain, same issue but O2 are saying it can't be repaired

And how can I do that?

Other than a quick search on twitter for people with the exact same issue (and there are loads of them) who are all adamant the phone hasn't been near water ...

Entirely up to you what you do but all the other networks will take the same line. If the moisture indicators say the phone has got wet (by whatever means) then warranty's void.

Trading standards and the Financial Ombudsman will not be interested in this at all.

Very few people take a £500 laptop out in the rain and start using it but yet we expect to do the same from our phones. next time it rains look a the number of people who still use phone, either in the rain, at a bus or train stop or on the train, the humidity level is still high, and often people have wet fingers and hair. Many of them will swear they have never got the phone wet at all.

It may be that yours has never got wet, but due to the actions in the past of many people getting phones wet and claiming it was a warranty fault that why phone makers started to put moisture indicators in them.

I still think it's not fit for purpose. I'm going to see what trading standards have to say.

I think it's a scam - they put these little sensors in and then suddenly they don't have to deal with any returns because the sensor says the air humidity was too high. Well I'm sorry but that's not acceptable. If I wanted at barometer I would have bought one.

The goods are not fit for the purpose they were designed.
