Sending Passport Through The Post

Just wondering if everyone sends their passport off via special delivery or send it first class? I was quite happy to send mine off with a 1st Class stamp (I did think about using 2nd class as well ). The woman who served me practically refused to send it unless I paid the £6.22 for Special Delivery.

Where are you sending it?
I've applied for various visas where I have to send my passport through the post and I'd never, ever use anything less than Royal Mail Special Delivery - which is trackable.0 -

yeah thats fine.
So if it never arrives, then what?
you have cost of replacement and never know if someone has a passport in your name.
Its not about its value, its about the cost & hassle of it going missing0 -
I wouldn't send mine by "normal" delivery.
The hassle of it vanishing doesn't bear thinking about - and I've had various items of mail not arrive over the years.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

I am in the Special Delivery club. No RM method is 100% secure but special delivery is the best.0

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think our post was that dodgy, an old passport that was about to run out didn't seem that important, proof of posting would have kept me happy but I have paid the extra and have the peace of mind in knowing it will be delivered by 1pm tomorrow. Not that I was that bothered in the first place.0
