I was reminded of this thread by an article in The Times today, which reports that there is an inverse correlation between money spent on a wedding and the length of the subsequent marriage.

I do hope that it's true, as my fianc!e and I plan to spend only the registry office fee on our wedding.

woah, potentially the biggest day of your life and your scrimping!

im guessing your bringing your own food to the registry too? or is it dinner at yours?

I would not be too concerned about what the papers say about wedding costs to be honest, each couple is unique!

The biggest day of my life was the day that I met my future wife, not the day we sign a legal document.

As for bringing our own food, as I think I mentioned up-thread we are fortunate in that we are doing a fair bit better than you two financially, so no, we'll likely fly to the wife's family in Antibes afterwards, and eat there.

Even if the OP was bragging, so what? But there is no need for such horridness. so much envy! The cake is their choice !
The front entrance/ hall looks like mine . Love it still .

to be honest, initially i was not bragging but once i saw the envy in people i thought I would amuse myself!

glad you like the entrance! we are proud of that !!!

I am happy your both financially secure, i do find it worrying you have to go on a public forum to (try to) belittle people although you cannot be THAT financially secure if you have to stay with family? is that the honeymoon?

The OP's posts scream "look at me, look at me, i bet you're all jealous" A bit sad really.

People who marry in a registry office are just as married as someone who spends thousands of pounds. Just think what could have been done with the money spent on the wedding.

    What envy ?

I don't like the entrance hall by the way, it's a bit like a hairdressers waiting area, a bit cliche'd, no personality. No offence, just my opinion.

Now back to the 40k wedding and your home.

A wedding is a personal thing and if you're into marrying a high maintenance wife then 40k is what 40k does. Irrevocably, come the divorce, you will be required to keep said wife to the manner she has become accustomed. Personally, 40k on a big wedding is an expensive way of admitting your equipment may be on the small side. I wouldn't want a bunch of !!!!!!!!!!s on my big day. We hired a Manor House and all 24 bedrooms for the day and I think the whole day cost £12k. I do agree about cheap photography, you get what you pay for. But long after the day is gone, that £40k could have gone on something you can both continue to enjoy, not once enjoyed.

Your hallway looks lovely. What a treat for your Hunter wellies. The mirror looks lovely but when the kids come along, the au pair may need to do overtime keeping it clean or maybe you rub it clean each morning and say

"Mirror mirror on the 20k converted wall,
Whose an arrogant co ck after all"

Oh and by the way, my disposable exceeds yours so it's not jealousy.:rotfl:

Forgot to add, the success for a long term marriage is

    20k for the big day
20k for plastic surgery in 20 years for yourself

Those pesky semi naked window cleaners on a sweltering hot day will play havoc in years to come whilst your working off your mortgage and your Mrs is waiting for the Ocado delivery man

It's such a simplistic statement that it's unlikely to be true on any useful level. Even if true, it isn't necessarily a causal relationship. Just spend what you want to spend/can afford and keep working on the relationship.
