Every person, married or single, young or old, should have some money that they can access and spend however they like without having to ask for someone else's approval.Old dog but always delighted to learn new tricks!0

that's different to savings that you don't tell your OH about.
I have a stash that we call my travel fund - mine to spend to wander off when I want, but my OH knows I have it, knows roughly how much it is and knows it's mine.0 -
I suppose I sort of fall into that category. My OH knows I save each month, but doesn't know where, how much or my total savings amount I have stashed away. I guess it's sort of secret.
I don't think he's really interested in knowing how much I have tbh. Would I tell him if he asked??? Prob not lol. Would tell him to mind his own...

When I was in a relationship I used to have to save secretly otherwise the then OH would spend it. It was just an emergency fund, if he knew about it, he would of relied on it.
I don't have to hide my dosh from anyone but when I do I'll have a little bit put away to 'forget' about

I think it's always nice to have a little bit stashed away for a rainy day. I'd feel like I could tell my OH about it without fear of it being used or called into question.
It's good to be open. Communication is important. May be that's just me. But I think we can encourage each other more if we know we're saving, independently or not.0 -
Never felt the need to have a 'secret' stash, but then both sensible with money and both happy to share.
I suppose each to their own but I wonder how those who do this would feel if OH was the one secretively doing it?Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
Yep. Any extra money is hidden by me for saving.
My OH is much better at spending money than I am at making it. ;-)0 -
Yep, I just starting saving up my "running away fund". Not that I have any plans to run away from my husband, but I like having the security of my own stash that is mine, rather than ours. You never know what will happen in the future, so best to be prepared!0

I assume you would be quite happy for him to have a secret running away savings plan too?
Off course the truth is if you were ever to divorce you would have to declare your savings ( as I understand it )Vuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
