DWP demanding I give them a signed statement - you wish!

I'm up for a renewal of my Industrial Injury Disablement Benefit on the 11th. After reading the notes attached to the 'ATOS call to be interrogated' order, it states that the DWP will use not only the ATOS assessment report, but also and including 'your own statement'.
I questioned as to when they would like the statement submitting. No, the doctor will take it for you, what hand it in, no she will write down what you say and then you sign it.

Hang on, you don't mean sign the assessment - yes. But I didn't write it. No the doctor will and then read it back to you at the end. So I take his/her word for it that what is written, represents exactly what I have said, Yes.

I don't like that.

Well it was left that if I don't sign it as being a true record under the Perjury Act, after having to rely on the honesty of ATOS to read it to me to me, then the claim will be closed.

That's blackmail, I said.

Is it the case that in assessments like these that when you talk to the ATOS doctor they write down what they (think) you said and then under penalty of the claim being closed you must sign and date it even if you don't understand or can't read the statement?

At the moment I am minded to take my own statement in giving the facts as they are instead of relying on an ATOS employee to be honest enough to take accurate dictation.

    Can you read?
Well if so,you simply read the notes and either agree/disagree
    pretty standard in many situations.
How can you write a relevant statement when you dont know what will be asked?

Of course I can read, but the doctor is not required or obliged to hand over what they have written - they will read it back to you.

This may help you. Taken from the ATOS site relating to what will happen at the assessment.

The doctor will take a statement about the relevant accident or illness, including any treatment as a result of this and the limitations that have arisen. This will then be read back for agreement and signature.

I propose to compile a statement covering details about the relevant accident including any treatment as a result of this and the limitations that have arisen.

Is this OK to do, I don't fancy the idea of not being allowed to read the report before I sign it.

So have you thought of asking to read it?
In one hand you talk of people who cant read, then object to having it read out.

Will the accident be relevant to your treatment/prognosis? I doubt it.

in fact if it were me. Why not ask to sit by the doctor(or whomever) while they read what they have written?

I have been through six of these re-assessments so far, this is the seventh. The last one in February 2012, I did ask to read the last one myself, but the excuse given by the doctor was that I probably wouldn't be able to read her handwriting.

As a matter of course they do not allow you to see what they have written.

Yes I do object to having it read out. When I managed to get a copy of the 2012 report they didn't even sound like my words. The whole statement was disjointed and not in the order that I talked about things. When read, it gave a totally different aspect to what I said. I simply don't trust ATOS to be fair and impartial.
Seems that if I cause any waves the threat of being told that there will be no award is being used - comply or suffer the consequences two choices.

Of course it is relevant to the treatment and the prognosis/diagnosis. For goodness sake do you think I enjoy having to live on the medication I am taking?

Err yes, but do you think that pain relief medication is the only thing I have to take? I do actually have many disabilities and conditions, some mental, some physical. All are treated with medication. My repeat script runs into 5 and a half pages every month! Of those, only 3 items of the 28 actually relate to pain management.

You have to sit at a big desk opposite the doctor. To suggest that I go and sit by her side whilst she goes through the statement wouldn't be viewed as acceptable. Or maybe you think it would?

All I am asking is (a) do you feel it right and proper for this to take place in the way ATOS want it to and (b) can anybody foresee any problems by pre-empting the request by handing over a prepared statement of exactly what I want to say?

Mind you I don't even know why I am asking these questions on here as I doubt anybody will give a half decent reply without some snide comment being included. Methinks CAG is a better forum to ask advice on. Too many wierdos on here for my liking.

It's an interesting philosophical scenario though.

You have to give him that ;)
