    Of course!!

I wouldn't want to run the risk of losing the underlying entitlement to CA now would I. My wife has more of a problem accounting for her 35 hours a week, but somehow she seems to just manage it every week - call it good accounting.

Your wife doesn't have to account for what her carer does - that is the 'job' of the carer, should get DWP ever query it.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

I think Flo also claims CA, for Andy, and though she gets SRP, and so will Andy in June, they get PC, so receive Underlying Carers Allowance.

I get UCA, but because I don't get PC, my UCA is nil.

Quite right considering that my wife is MY carer, and I am hers.

Nil??? We each get UCA of approx. £33 a week!! Which also allows us to claim the SDP of another £119 a week.

Yes, underlying entitlement etc., is only any use where means tested benefits/tax credits are concerned.

We both have the underlying entitlements, but because our benefits, pensions etc., are contributory with no MT elements, it's all pretty meaningless.

Yes, nil. You cannot claim Carers Allowance if you receive State Retirement Pension, but if you are deemed to be eligible for CA, you are awarded Underlying Carers Allowance. Because neither my husband or I claim Pension Credit, this allowance is nil.

In your case, so you've said, your wife, who is older than you, claimed Pension Credit, once she was of pension age, and because you say that you are both carers, for at least 35 hours a week, you both get UCA.

Whatever name you happen to be using, you have told us many times that you get over £2,500 a month in benefits. It may be more.

I've found that the way you seem to dismiss the disabilities of others, is cavalier in the extreme, and yet you continue to do so. Similarly, your opening word of the post I quote is - "Nil???" - as if I'm wrong!

It is always worth claiming underlying entitlement, subject to a few exceptions, if you get Pension guarantee credit, claim HB, or other means tested benefits, but is little use if you don't.

If you have savings, over the threshold, it's no use at all.
