I think you make a good point, StrayCat, about referral links, but... I do give people the benefit of the doubt, as it's not always obvious when a link is a referral one or not, if copying it from the FB app etc.

    James Dyer
Ruth , I would define a professional comper as somebody who uses various methods to give themselves an advantage over others when entering competitions . I have no problem whatsoever with anyone who enters competitions as a hobby, some people collect stamps , fish etc etc , when they are cheating it is a different matter . My main aim is to show that underhand tactics are being allowed by reputable sites such as MSE, a site that claims to be fair and impartial? They allow people to swap codes for items when purchases are asked for in the rules , they promote adding fake friends onto Facebook and Twitter to give yourself advantages
with referral links, they allow people to ask for votes from strangers ,they allow answers from crossword magazines to be shared among thousands , costing firms untold money . We have the Chicken debacle with Tesco Direct to show MSE in another light as one example. And many more I will not discuss or print until I get the ok from my legal team. My aim is not to bring any comper down personally, I have bigger fish to fry and also my own conscious would not allow that .I am purely going to show that certain sites are not as squeaky clean as they like to portray themselves as and this is a small part in a bigger story. My identity and 'hiding' is something I feel I need to protect with some of the work I do, I could put any picture up of anybody but why do I need to? if you don't want to take me seriously then fine , I did not ask you too in the first place and will feel no effect from it at all . I wish you all the best in all you do , and hope something nice comes your way very soon from your hobby . All the very best.[/QUOTE]

Can't see anything wrong with this reply at all. Haven't read the original article but can see how sharing Magazine answers, crosswords, refferals, codes for products and a particular peeve of mine, begging for votes, annoys a lot of people and can be seen as cheating. Got to annoy readers who have to purchase the mags. Doesn't bother me at all, I use the codes and copy the answers etc although get a hot flush when I see any vote for me post (Win on the merits guys not on how many people you can get to vote. Are vote for me posts cheating? Absolutely of course they are!).

The only thing I'm annoyed about is that the article was written at all simply because it could lead to a lot of help on here we all use being stopped. Am I disputing what he says? No.

He is a billy no mates on Twitter (no followers :D ) - if the companies he is following have any interest in what he has to say don't you think they would be following him back!?

I also believe he has a grudge against MSE as there are loads of other comping sites that share answers, coupon codes etc. Probablly an old MSE troll who was booted off! Let him get on with it!
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea
  • I think with magazine answers, they're the sort of thing you could have seen browsing in a shop or picked up from a friend and I see them as no purchase necessary questions and don't feel it's cheating. I am less comfortable with the codes and choose not to use them. But it doesn't particularly bother me that others do - I certainly wouldn't feel the need to write an expose as there are so many other injustices in the world I'd concentrate my energy on.

It does seem James Dyer has chosen this site for his attention and i'm sure there's a personal reason. I can't see there being an episode of Panorama on this issue though!!

I will only vote for what/who I think is the best in any comp, it seems everyone is self promoting and asking for votes and likes wherever I go!

All I can say is 'this man is sad' - almost like he is stalking us! He is now analysising what we post and how active we are - yet it seems he is the most active one on here as he must be scanning these forums 24/7 and copying conversations and pasting them elsewhere on the net!

From Kippo1's link you can see he has copied all these conversations and analysed them!!???:

    Comping on holiday

As trolls go I've seen more convincing ones on the My Little Pony forum :rotfl::rotfl: (actually I just made that up - is there such a forum?) - but you take my point? This dude is just coming across as ...... a bored little person whose underpants are a shade too tight. I feel sorry for him :rotfl::rotfl:

If he's got to the stage of analysing and compiling the post/comments he seriously needs therapy...
