Just corrected that for you fella........;)0 -
Yes, perhaps not positive but that's not what is promised here.
Ah well, it's the prerogative of posters to post what they like within the forum rules and to decide whether they want to be constructive or obstructive. C'est la vie.
I wonder how many holier-than-thou posters receive child benefit, housing benefit, Council Tax relief, job seekers allowance or working tax credit etc but who still get all uppity when someone has the temerity to avail themselves of "the taxpayer-subsidised benefit" which you would refer to as RTB?
Rhetorical question

I would posit that there is a difference between being obstructive and being negative/not positive.
If no one had pointed out the potential downsides, it would be very strange, to say that least.0 -

We have differing views; attrition won't change them.
Besides, the OP has professional advice and will no doubt complete the purchase if it is advantageous so it looks like the negativity of the majority of posters has had an unintended motivating effect.
Oops

OP: hopefully your advice includes long-term planning for contingencies? Even if you get £70k RTB discount, you seem to be hoping that the property you buy will cover a lot of things
- maintenance of the property (and services charges) while your mum is living there whilst waiting for the council's charge on the property to be removed.
- A property for mum to downsize into.
- Maintenance on the downsized place (potentially for decades).
- Healthcare for your mum (private treatment can go through money remarkably fast).
- Subsistence and care for your mum after she has downsized (if she would otherwise have been eligible for means-tested support).
- And still something left over to pass onto your family?!
There's also the question of what happens if property prices fall over the next 5 years (you'd do well if they rose significantly, of course, but neither of us has a crystal ball).
It's good that you're wanting to help your mum, but don't be too optimistic about how far the RTB discount will get you.0 -

As it says at the top of every page "This is an open forum - anyone can post"; a forum is a medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.
Both you and the OP are upset because you only want specific questions answered and don't want anyone asking difficult questions about the less savoury aspects of this get-rich plan.spartahawk wrote: »We have expert advices and no longer need your opinions.
Has your mother's independent and impartial expert advice confirmed this wheeze is in her best interests?Lord_Baltimore wrote: »it looks like the negativity of the majority of posters has had an unintended motivating effect.
We both know that profiteering was by far the biggest motivating effect for the OP. To pretend that posters on here are responsible is just silly.Every generation blames the one before...

Yes I know what a forum is and I think you'll find I've already said that people can post what they like subject to forum rules.
I'm not upset. I don't want answers to any questions but I do think those who want specific answers ought to be be able to get them without all the moralising.MobileSaver wrote: »Has your mother's independent and impartial expert advice confirmed this wheeze is in her best interests? .
That's not really any of your business is it?MobileSaver wrote: »We both know that profiteering was by far the biggest motivating effect for the OP. To pretend that posters on here are responsible is just silly.
You think you know. In all honesty, I'm not the least bit interested in the OP's motives. It's none of my business anyway. Are you sure you haven't made the OP even more determined to proceed? :rotfl:Mornië utulië0 -

You are contradicting yourself as you clearly do not know what a forum is then. A forum is intentionally designed for people to express their views on a subject, it is not a question and answer session regardless of how much you and the OP would like only very specific questions answered.Lord_Baltimore wrote: »That's not really any of your business is it?
Yes it is, the OP posted on a public forum that I take part in which makes it my business.Lord_Baltimore wrote: »You think you know. In all honesty, I'm not the least bit interested in the OP's motives. Are you sure you haven't made the OP even more determined to proceed?
From reading the OP's posts I know 100% that nothing is motivating them more than taking advantage of their mum's situation for their own benefit. You are being anything but honest to suggest otherwise.Every generation blames the one before...

just as a little update, which will no doubt infuriate the many on here...
especially with comments like " nothing is motivating them more than taking advantage of their mum's situation for their own benefit."
the council have valued my mothers 4 bed property at 120k,
with the 75k discount leaves 45k to pay.
a private valuation was 200k+ with the amendments to the house.
looks like "i will be making a fortune here" thanks to this forum and those that drove me to bully and harass my mother to do something she didnt want to do.
maybe when i sell the house for profit - i will release her from the cellar!0
