They simply might not share your values and just want financial advice from a source that purports to be for Money Saving Experts.

Martin and the team are the Money Savings Experts - the forum contributors are just people with their own opinions, just as you get on other sites.

In Exeter, the council offer right to buy, but if you sell within 5 years you have to repay a portion of the right to buy discount, dependant on price it sells for and how long you have been a tenant. If you sell between 5 - 10 years you have to offer it to the council first and if they don't want it back, you can sell it on the open market.

How very much dare anyone try to do something the experts do not agree with!!
I find some of the comments and abuse on here quite laughable, I am enjoying this experience more than I imagined- people are really passionate about their beliefs.

Goest forth, Devil, and do your evil doings. Your soul is lost.

Seriously, I think there are people here who are inherently good and decent if somewhat self-opinionated. I don't see it as my job to impose my views on anyone; we all have a sense of right and wrong and it is up to us as individuals to make our choices.

Martin and the team are experts but not the only experts. There are people here with very extensive knowledge too.

There are, indeed, but they are posting as forum contributors, not paid experts, and so are able to be as opinionated as they like alongside giving their advice.

Well yes of course. And others may provide an opposing view. It just seems to me that keeping to the agenda of financial advice seems more in keeping with the intended aims of the site. It also avoids irrelevant argument.

But tht's just my view, you may disagree!

Indeed but why when pitfalls are pointed out do people instead of saying.... OK another view point thanks.......throw their toys of of the pram and get abusive just because someone sees flaws in their wonderful make money plan ? It makes me wonder how they'd react if the tenant didn't want to go through with it or expressed doubts. Would they rant at them too or respect their opinion ?

  • No one is throwing toys out the pram.
Just getting bombarded with ethical and moral reasons why a parent can not secure her future and provide for her young.
The opinions flood in from people who automatically assume I want to rip my mother off and bury her without a gravestone whilst spending all the equity!
    Judgmental opinions are hurtful!

I think that you are conveniently missing the points made that your parent will be risking her security for her future not securing it.

Stop reading the thread then. Leave the advice given for others who have similar misguided ideas to be able to digest and gain from.
