lots of people dismissing the OP's concerns and suggesting he's a bad neighbour.

To me it is fairly clear who the bad neighbour is, and I'm sure it is possible to be quite so dismissive if it is your own property that the neighbour was taking liberties with...

since we don't really know the full situation here it's hard to judge - maybe the neighbours have made a genuine mistake, or maybe they have just taken the installers advice for the location of the dish, maybe they saw a bracket from the previous one and thought to re-use that - we just don't know but issuing demands on the new neighbours is the right way to get up their noses and potentially cause issues in the future.
Sometimes it's much better to try and get along with people than be deliberately problematic, especially when you live next door.

A quick word with them, if it really is a problem, would be the best approach - if one of my neighbours came up to me saying he was going to charge me rent for my satellite dish being over the boundary I think he might get an xrated reply!

A photo of this infringement would also help others to see just how much this is overhanging. As it stands we are only going the OP's word of where it is located...

which is all we rely on for probably >95% of the posts on this forum :D

As the OP has stated he'll be putting up some scaffolding in the near future, even a small 'overhang' will likely put their sky dish out of action... probably for everyone's best interest that the OP deals with this now.

    Not too good!
  • Thanks for all the feedback......even from the Sky lovers!

Anyway I went and welcomed my new neighbours to the street and then discussed the satellite dish issue with them, to which they were very nice and understanding - having not seen it themselves they explained that the sky installer just said he put it where the old one was............the lazy illegal option!

I wrote to Sky (twice as Royal Mail lost the first recorded delivery letter!) giving them 14 days to remove it or I shall be taking legal proceeding against them for two counts of trespass and fly tipping on my property - as the installer also had the cheek to toss the old plates and fixings into my drain........delightful breed these sky installers eh?

The upshot is Sky wrote back very apologetic and as of last Friday the offending equipment has all been removed and everything is right in the world again!

Thanks for all the advice and case law to those concerned, and I hope this scenario may help someone else in the future.
