Bottom line is you have no tracking it's an open and shut case in the resolution teams eyes , a lesson learned for the future always keep an eye on days passed with cases and if its valuable send it recorded .
No point dwelling move on .0 -

To clarify.
1st and 2nd class mail are insured to £20. 'Signed For' (it hasn't been 'recorded for a while) is only up to £50. So anything 'valuable' should go via Special Delivery or another insured courier.0 -
I send everything tracked and charge an appropriate fee. The responsibility for delivery is down to the seller so tracked postage protects you. As said above learn from the experience and move on.

If you send low cost items signed for then you must watch your stars on your expanded dashboard. One or two of the regulars here, and several people on the community boards find buyers object to the cost

Personally anything under £10 I send by normal mail. Anything £10-£20 I send recorded even if I haven't charged extra for recorded. Anything over £20 goes by courier but they always have the option to pay extra to go Special Delivery if they want it to go by Royal Mail.
Personally though anything over £10 I would send by recorded at least regardless of what I have charged them for postage. I may lose a pound on postage but I would rather do that than have an item "go missing". I have had a few low value items go missing but at the end of the day you have to trust people to be honest.0 -

My business model would not support losing ' a pound or two' on postage on a sub £20 item, I prefer to,trust people and use the postage option that covers me in case I need to claim. Although I don't even do that sometimes as for low cost china and glass items I just risk standard post or MyHermes.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If less than 1 in 20 items "go missing", you're throwing money away sending recorded for items up to £20, even if you don't claim.
Even if 1 in 20 items do go missing, I'd be quesitoning if it's worth the hassle of selling them in the first place.0 -
Always refund the buyer if you have no tracking even if you know they are ripping you off. Ebay hardly ever come back to you if they naru a buyer for ripping other sellers off at a later date.0

I had one before Christmas- bought on a Sunday (I offer 1 working day despach 2nd class) , I posted Monday and the ebay estimate said it would arrive Tuesday or Wednesday- so they opened a case on the Wednesday. Wouldn't wait any longer as ebay clearly told them by Thursday it was 'late'.
Obviously I refunded but I reported them for everything I could think of, I even phoned ebay. They are still there but I notice that they are no longer buying anything- whether that is because they are all shopped out or have some sort of restriction I don't know.
I personally partly blame ebay for their stupid estimates where Saturday and Sunday are treated as a normal working day and 'despatch within 1 working day' is taken to me you rush it round to the PO immediately they pay. I had things bought yesterday, I am printing off ebay postage now as I type and 2nd class is telling me that 'this service will not meet buyers expectations and I need to upgrade to a faster service'- apologies, I've strayed into my usual rant, I'll stop nowI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. lol ...All ours say dispatch in 3 days and economy deliver 3-5 days. The stuff is always dispatched in one day.
Its not ideal but it minimizes numpties. Sometimes we get a buyer that asks why the 3 day dispatch. We have to explain its to compensate for impatient buyers and all items are dispatched in 1 day0
