Sure I saw a programme (Saints & Scroungers) once and there was help for a lady/family with a laptop for excluded son in the Saints bit, and the above charity played a part x

Thankyou very much guys to yourselves that posted USEFULL and very HELPFULL information.

And to those that really need to find something better to do, that have implied that my original post wasnt a genuine question I sincerely hope that you do not deter other people posting.

Your tone and your inference goes against everything which this site is about.
I agree with what you say, I just hope that I wasn't included as one of those people. :D

Now get posting what's wrong with your laptop and people will try and get it sorted. Just mention what's wrong with it, what it's doing (or not doing). Don't forget to give us the make and model of it, too.

I'm sure you see the irony in that post...

Just a suggestion, if you look on online auction sites, you can pick up a laptop with no OS. Install a Linux distro on it (if you struggle with it, there plenty of good guides you can use out there) and Bob's Uncle.

I am dyslexic and do have problems with spelling - as this isnt my lap-top I am unfamiliar with the settings.

I have much better things to do than lie about my qualifications.

Its a shame you have nothing better to do than run a spell check on a dyslexics persons post!

If you are dyslexic you may be able to recieve a grant to purchase a laptop / computer if you go into education or employment. I would maybe contact your local college. That is if you didnt get one at uni. You would need to do an assessment or provide proof of previous assessments before granted.

My sincere apologies!!! And thankyou so much for your help.

My difficulties and errors (what i do apologise for and thought were beter explained by dislexia etc) may have been clouded.thanks again and sorry.
  • OP, perhaps you should have posted from the perspective of a large multinational bank asking for a bailout in the billions - then I suspect the ones insinuating you are a scrounger would be all for you receiving the money.

Might be worth asking on a freecycle style group if anybody has a desktop computer they can give you. I say desktop as people seldom give out laptops, yet I have received one (and then gave one back later on) from such a group.

Good luck and just ignore the idiots.

Intelligent, helpfull, much appreciated. The idiots? I would only (and do) take genuine time out of my life (as I have one) to try and offer genuine and helpful advice to folk. If I was to do the opposite-be negative-judgemental etc - well what can one say?

Thanks again for your response and other helpful posts from genuine folk. XX
  • I think you need to brush up on your comprehension skills. I have at no point criticised you or accuses you of being a scrounger or lier.

My posts were in reply to another poster, who has accuses a different poster of implying that you were lying. I hadn't read it like that.

As for being constructive, pointing out that you can get a device that would allow you to access the internet for a lot less than £400 is good advice.

PS, I'm dyslexic as well, and as such am meticulous about making sure my posts are as correctly spelled and as grammatically correct as possible, to the extent of having another tab open with a dictionary and other useful sites for reference.

I personally feel I have to do this because I know that on an on-line forum people will judge you on how you write and on any mistakes you make with spelling/grammar, which will detract from any message you are writing.

But hey, that's just me and my own little peccadillo.

    Hi richard,

Sincere apologies as I think i did act quite hastely!! Taking a deep breath and time out lol!!! I now realise that your posts were by no means a dig and of the undertone of some others .sorry and thanks for your advice.x
