The op wants a new laptop surely it's only common sense to look to save money, especially when you only get £60 per week.0

I asked the question because If they are using a tablet or a phone then they could sell the smart phone and buy a bog standard phone and a bog standard laptop, instead of expecting another handout so they don't have to walk to a library.
yeah right, have the back bone to stick to what you were implying.
So lets get this right, you wanted to know how they were posting on here, so you could suggest to sell that and buy a laptop :rotfl:
You could have just suggested the OP sell something, I guess your suggest only works if the OP has a smart phone... right! that's why you asked the question0 -
you know nothing about the OP, they ask a simple question, is they any help available, they did not ask for a free laptop but for some help, as I said there are budgeting loans for this. which get paid back.
The OP is trying to get back into work, why be nasty when someone asks a simple question?0 -
Thankyou very much guys to yourselves that posted USEFULL and very HELPFULL information.
And to those that really need to find something better to do, that have implied that my original post wasnt a genuine question I sincerely hope that you do not deter other people posting.
Your tone and your inference goes against everything which this site is about.
And for your information, no i am not stupid. I have a first-class Bsc and a PhD. But unfortunately, like many other people, have been unemployed for a considerable amount of time. I borrow a friends a lap-top which isnt always available. Prior to me loosing my job due to a lack of funding I quite happily payed tax national insurance etc. I am now unfortunately, in a position where I am struggling to pay my mortgage. As previous, helpfull posters pointed out, I was enquiring as to potential help-not a free lap top etc.
Again thanks to you guys that gave helpfull information.

I think they were.
surely the OP is not daft, if s/he could use the same method why would they be asking the question?
I am by no means proud of the fact I have been out of work for several years. As i am only just managing to keep a roof above my head with my mortgage-trust me-I have better things t do than as you implied "lie" about my current situation. I borrow a friends laptop which is her daughters.
When people post questions on this site and ask for genuine information/help they do not deserve to be judged and subject to such posts like from yourself.0 -

Again, we don't know if the OP is daft or not, there are plenty of daft people out there.
Just as a side point, the OP had a £400 budget for a new laptop a couple of weeks ago. Just for web access for job seeking, something a lot cheaper would suffice.
For your information I thought I had £400 as I applied for a budgeting loan which has been turned down.
Why not put your efforts in to being constructive and trying to give good and useful advice to people.
There are great posters on here that give genuine and good usefull advice.
Do you really have nothing better to do? I hope you dont deter other people asking questions etc.0 -
I am dyslexic and do have problems with spelling - as this isnt my lap-top I am unfamiliar with the settings.
I have much better things to do than lie about my qualifications.
Its a shame you have nothing better to do than run a spell check on a dyslexics persons post!0 -

I'm guessing you meant to quote a different post as I was supporting you0 -
OP, perhaps you should have posted from the perspective of a large multinational bank asking for a bailout in the billions - then I suspect the ones insinuating you are a scrounger would be all for you receiving the money.
Might be worth asking on a freecycle style group if anybody has a desktop computer they can give you. I say desktop as people seldom give out laptops, yet I have received one (and then gave one back later on) from such a group.
Good luck and just ignore the idiots.0 -

I think you need to brush up on your comprehension skills. I have at no point criticised you or accuses you of being a scrounger or lier.
My posts were in reply to another poster, who has accuses a different poster of implying that you were lying. I hadn't read it like that.
As for being constructive, pointing out that you can get a device that would allow you to access the internet for a lot less than £400 is good advice.
PS, I'm dyslexic as well, and as such am meticulous about making sure my posts are as correctly spelled and as grammatically correct as possible, to the extent of having another tab open with a dictionary and other useful sites for reference.
I personally feel I have to do this because I know that on an on-line forum people will judge you on how you write and on any mistakes you make with spelling/grammar, which will detract from any message you are writing.
But hey, that's just me and my own little peccadillo.0
