Ideas to recruit new cheerleaders

But Mom isn't just American - it's widely used in regions of England, I think it might be West Mids but not quite sure. So it's as valid as Mam to be used instead of Mum 'over here'.
Yep, it's used throughout the West Midlands (or at least the bits I've been to). I'm from south Wales so it looks/sounds odd to me, but my colleagues didn't even realise it could be spelled any other way until I mentioned it!
ETA: Good luck with the recruitment drive OP! I'd definitely focus on letting people know about the dance and acrobatics element of it, and make sure the kids realise it's not about pompoms and miniskirts, as it's something they probably have quite a set image of in the minds, even if it's totally wrong.0 -
Sunday 11pm-1pm would suit me just fine, shame I'm not in the right area! Lots of people don't read notices. My friends always ask me when stuff is on cos they know I do!
What about netmums? That's where I found a drama summer school for my daughter, which in turn led to her doing weekly drama classes.
Do they ever do displays at fetes and summer fayres? I think once people are watching kids in action and then can pick up a leaflet people think about their own child going, or child watching asks 'can I start doing that'.0 -
Oooo Netmums is a good idea - thank you!
We're hoping to perform at the Great North Run, and also at another display in the Metro Centre soon, and hoping to get involved with a few other things. Might be time to design a flyer or postcard as well as the posters!

Yup. Mom is definitely West Mids.
'Spelled' is the American spelling BTW. The UK equivalent is 'spelt'.
There is also nothing wrong with using 'z' in words like Americanized either. It is correct in UK English too.
Getting the thread back on the rails... our local University cheer leading club has male members too. Is that a way that you could boost membership? That said, I have no idea what they actually do.0 -

Good luck
Great ideasthank you lots!
EDIT: Mumsnet and Netmums ads up, local papers phoned, posters designed

What about putting on displays, especially at charity events0

It's harder to get into than you'd think but we have lots of applications in. There's also safety to consider as we're more stunt-based than pompom-based, but hopefully we can get into a few suitable events

Ironically, given that the sort of twits who complain about -ize have a tendency to look to the OED for authority, -ize is actually the house style for Oxford University Press and is preferred in, wait for it, the OED. -ize is also historically the British English spelling: it isn't that Americans adopted -ize, it's that some people in Britain started to switch to -ise, and America didn't follow. It's not part of Webster's changes (theater, color, plow, etc).
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxford_spelling for the whole story.0 -
My ds often brings home leaflets from school for activities at local venues ie football lessons, ice hockey matches. Could you try something like this?0

How about arranging a display at a local shopping centre?
Kids out with their parents would see it and perhaps pester their mums and dads into letting them have a go?
Not sure what insurance requirements (H&S!!! Etc) might be required but could be something to investigate :jWhether you think you can or you can’t, you’re probably right ~ Henry Ford0
