Stupid woman put her shopping all over the place for some reason. A bag was behind my car. I didn't see anything on my wing mirror and then reversed and crushed it.
Now she wants to claim on my insurance. I laughed but she seemed dead serious.
I said its her fault entirely for leaving her shop behind my vehicle, out of my view.
I told her if she wants my details to go to the police station and get it.
Now I'm a bit concerned. Could it possibly be my fault?

Good job it wasn't a small child holding a basket of kittens.0

What if it was a small child? Won't somebody think of the children?!?!?!
Yup! Stoopid woman. Her fault. What does she expect you to do? Get out of the car, check underneath and around it for shopping (and/or small children), get back in, maybe get out again in case someone places something under your car in the nanosecond you put your seatbelt on (or a small child crawls underneath)? The man without a signature.0 -
lmao! what did you crush? a few bananas and a pack of biscuits, or something valuable?!
If she is stupid enough to put some shopping behind a car when she can see the driver is in the car and probably about to reverse, then its her tough cack!0 -
For god sake, every time this guy posts its another ridiculous situation he's got himself in.
He's either attention seeking or trolling for reactions or he's the biggest idiot ever to hit the road.0 -
Personally I think she should take responsibility herself. However, I remember reading examples where a child lay down their bike etc behind a car parked on the drive and it was reversed over. The driver was found responsible as apparently you are obligated to check around your car before getting in to check it safe to reverse out.
Was the women there when you got in the car or did she turn up and put her shopping as you were reversing?:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0 -
In short you are responsible, maybe it required more than a look in the mirrors.
I hope you gave here your details, if not and it was within 24 hours get to a police station unless you want a fail to report.
You've had a reportable collision and not complied with the road traffic act. You also need to tell the insurance company before she does.0 -
You certainly should have given your details, regardless of whose fault you thought it was. If you didn't, expect a NIP for failure to stop/report if she does go to the police station.
Added - hmmm, maybe notThis section applies in a case where, owing to the presence of a [F1mechanically propelled vehicle] on a road [F2or other public place], an accident occurs by which—
(a)personal injury is caused to a person other than the driver of that [F1mechanically propelled vehicle], or
(b)damage is caused—
(i)to a vehicle other than that [F1mechanically propelled vehicle] or a trailer drawn by that [F1mechanically propelled vehicle], or
(ii)to an animal other than an animal in or on that [F1mechanically propelled vehicle] or a trailer drawn by that [F1mechanically propelled vehicle], or
(iii)to any other property constructed on, fixed to, growing in or otherwise forming part of the land on which the road [F3or place] in question is situated or land adjacent to such land.0 -
Yes she's stupid. Leaving her property in where she could load it into her car. But, she will go to the police, and report you for refusing to give your details after an accident. Or she could get your info from askmid and put in a claim against you for reversing over her property. Still, you have a perfect defence, you didn't see her, and she's obviously a ninja shopper. Good luck.0

I wouldn't give either your details or your insurance details.
This incident does not fall within the definition of "accident" which requires the driver to provide details or report it to police:

I doubt the police would give her your details either, but she could always get your insurers' details from askmid.com.
However, there is nothing in what you've written to suggest you were negligent.
Even if you did hit a small child carrying a box of kittens, it doesn't automatically follow that the driver was at fault (and that their insurance would pay out). Drivers are not expected to have X-ray vision. Injury or damage which is caused accidentally, despite the driver taking reasonable care, can't be claimed. Doesn't stop people trying though.
I wouldn't worry. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

A shopping bag doesn't seem to fall into any of those categories.
If there has been a collision, then no nip is required. The OP has no defence for failing to stop as he was aware it happened.
But as some else posted and having had a quick look at his history, this may be in his imagination.0
