  • I shop in Aldi and haven't had any probs with any fresh produce and find it much cheaper than bigger supermarkets. Parking is free at my local store.

Their 'post-Christmas' stock eg seasonal nuts, chocolate, cakes and biscuits etc are currently slashed to unbelievable prices in my store which has been great!
I also find their toiletries and household cleaning products to be cheap and fab.

My freezer is full to bursting point and my pantry is well stocked. I plan to eat from these as much as possible in February. I'd intended to do my top-up shopping for fruit, veg, bread, milk etc in tesco or asda but wonder if I would be better off shopping in Aldi. For those of you who go to Aldi, what's your opinions - is there much price difference going there?

    Thanks!

Yes there is a big price difference especially on fruit and veg. Especially if you choose your fruit and veg around their weekly super 6. https://www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/fresh-bakery/this-weeks-latest-super-6-offers/

There bread and milk is also cheaper.

That's a shame, I've found the fruit n fibre and frosties equivalent really good. The "weetabix" is almost as nice as the real thing too IMO.

I've tried about half of Aldi's cereals now and thought every single one was identical to the branded version. Even Shredded Wheat and Corn Flakes which I expected to notice a big difference with. I'm convinced they're made by the same company as the branded ones. They're all a bargain.

I do all my shopping in Aldi, i'd struggle to spend an hour in there ? If it's taking you more than an hour, you're doing something wrong !

It probably depends on how many people you shop for, for how many days, how many people go with you, as well as how busy the store is, how long it takes to park and to queue at the till. Some stores are busier than others.
The fact that you don't spend an hour there it doesn't mean that other people have to do things your way.
When you spend your life running around, catching trains etc, you don't want to be timed when you do your shopping too, particularly at weekends.

Although I am disappointed that they have recently started manipulating weights to non-standard pack sizes rather than adjusting prices.

    Really? That's disappointing.

It seems like every bloody thing is shrinking now. A massive con instead of hiking prices so that we won't notice. It's so insulting and it's a problem that's getting worse and worse.

So many products have p*ssed me off by doing this that I will no longer buy them unless I can get them on offer (BOGOF or half-price). I'll keep an eye on Aldi's stuff but I certainly trust them a lot more and their stuff is still generally so much cheaper than the brands.
  • I shopped there yesterday and was very happy with the prices and quality.
My shop in tesco weekly is roughly £65-£70 a week, yesterday I spent £38 this is for everything we need for a week including some treats.
Dh loves Aldi's version of haribos 69p, their version of weetabix, 6 pints of milk £1.48, oranges 69p, apples 69p, blueberries 69p, 72 pack of nappies around £7.50? Will last two weeks +, Baby wipes 79p with 80 in the pack both I think are better than pampers, even asda or tescos own you only get 72 in a pack and they are carp quality. Washing up liquid antibacterial is good and their plug in room fragrances are nice.
I came out with a lot and was surprised at the receipt, will check weekly offers and shop their from now on.

I've recommended it to my mum after she tasted Aldi's version/copy of Nescaf! gold £1.48 and it's lovely. :T

    Very impressed with them.

We are a family of four and I got our shop done in twenty minutes sticking to my list as well.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Definitely makes me want to try ALDI. I asked in my local store and there's no car park fee or limit to an hour only.

I bought some fruit and veg in Aldi on Tuesday. It all looked good and I was impressed with the Super 6. However...last night I opened the pack of onions to find that 2 out of the 4 were soft and rotten inside. The salad potatoes were a bit soft too.

The bananas are great, pears look good and the 2 loaves of bread were very fresh.

I'll see how I get on when I go tonight after work. Need to pick up a few things and will show them the onions.
