OK please ignore the instructions that I posted previously as a guide and follow these Sony instructions:
Wireless LAN Driver
Intel 6200 Wireless LAN Driver 13.0.0.107
Important :
- These drivers/utilities come already preinstalled on your VAIO computer. If you are still using the originally preinstalled Operating System, you can reinstall any of these drivers/utilities by using the Vaio Recovery Center program on your VAIO computer.
- These drivers/utilities are not updated versions. If you are looking for updated drivers/utilities, please visit the "Updates" section of this website or use the VAIO Update program if your computer has this functionality.
- Some VAIO preinstalled programs are not provided for download due to copyright restrictions.
1. Exit all running programs.
2. Download this file and save it to your hard drive.
3. When the download is completed, locate the downloaded file in the location you specified.
4. Right-click the file downloaded in previous step and choose "Extract All".
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to extract the compressed file.
6. Open the folder extracted in previous step and double-click on the file "Setup.exe".

Thanks once again, much appreciated.
Unfortunately the original discs which I created when purchasing the PC became damaged. We're using a Windows 7 disc which we bought, and nothing of the Vaio Care/utilities etc is now available.
I think that may be the reason we are experiencing all the problems.
The Windows disc now seems to have failed, absolutely no reason why, it installed the other day with no problems.
We are just trying to get the disc to load at present!
Thanks once again.0 -
"We're using a Windows 7 disc which we bought, and nothing of the Vaio Care/utilities etc is now available."
Indeed. The Windows 7 media from Microsoft will contain drivers and utilities for older hardware, because Microsoft are keen to get you to upgrade and want to make it as easy as possible. But it won't contain drivers or utilities for any hardware which postdates the release of Windows 7 (indeed, postdates the release of one of the later previews). So attempting to reinstall from straight Windows disk is not going to work; you will as a minimum need to download the drivers for your machine.
Can I ask why you felt the need to reinstall the machine?0 -
Thanks security guy.
The Windows disc has just finished installing, and following the advice on he thread, later this evening we will attempt to upload the drivers for our model PC.
It certainly isn't easy!

Update - can now connect to the internet wirelessly!
For the last couple of days haven't been able to get back to the PC. Today, had a look at the list of drivers which I downloaded.
Where I had gone wrong was thinking! that I had installed them. Unfortunately although they were downloaded, and extracted, I hadn't realised that downloading was a further step!
When I installed the WAN driver, could miraculously connect again to the net.
It's all been a learning experience, and I can't thank everyone enough for all the help given. Very much appreciated.0 -
Have you tried right-clicking on the Network icon on bottom RIGHT of Windows taskbar and selecting 'Troubleshoot problems'?
(Sorry - put LEFT before.)
NOW see problem was solved already! - Pass me that bottle!!!You can lose a loose goose.
You cannot loose a lose goose.
Get it? Now use it before you lose it.
or - Try using it - not losing it.

Thank you bollotom.
We had previously done a back up (mirror image) on a Click Free disc, which we had inserted in PC, trying to get back up and running. But unfortunately, for some reason, it didn't seem to work.
We had bought the Click Free disc and have 3 PCs backed up on it. We can't understand why it didn't work in this case.0
