Have been trying to update drivers, as suggested by enterprise 1701C, by right-clicking each driver, choosing update. However, none of the drivers listed seem to be installing.

Anyone any idea why this would happen?

    Thank you

I used to have a wireless laptop, Toshiba Satellite L350 and when I did a factory restore I had to download the Intel Pro 10/100 lan driver to get it to work. Having said that I now have the C850 model which works without doing that. I'd look at the possibility of turning off the laptop and then the router, wait a couple of minutes then turn the router back on, once the lights steady turn on the lappy and keep your fingers crossed.

Just as an aside. Sony (Though US) have a program that detects drivers. Link below. Don't know if it will work for the UK but might be worth a shot.

    Thanks very much for suggestions.

Will try the Sony US support site and see whether that helps.

    Very much appreciate everyone's input.

When this finished I went to the Sony support centre, typed in the model and have downloaded the drivers recommended for my PC model. When each driver had been downloaded, it showed a file but wasn't sure whether I needed to 'extract', so I left it.

Have you installed the wireless driver yet?

    Thanks for replying.

We had downloaded the drivers but still couldn't connect to the net.

As a last resort, have decided to reinstall the Windows desk and try again.

We have connected countless PCs, iPads and smartphones to the net with no problem, just typing in the wireless key. But this installation isn't giving us the option.

Will let you know how we get on.

Downloading is just the first step in the process. You need to actually install the driver for the relevant device for it to work correctly.

Not being techie, although I downloaded all the drivers listed, not 100% sure that I actually installed them There was a message about extracting files, which I clicked. But not altogether sure what I was doing.

I have reinstalled previous computers back to factory settings and have never come across this problem before. After setting up, PCs have worked fine.

Am using a Macbook Pro at the minute, which is running great, but wouldn't have a clue what to do if it crashed!

    It's all a learning experience. :D

I doubt from what you have posted, if you have actually installed the wireless driver. You don't appear to have given the exact model number of your machine but the following instruction are from the Sony support website and should help you:

    Wireless LAN Driver (Intel®)

    Intel® Wireless LAN Driver, Version 15.1.0.18 for Microsoft® Windows® 7

This utility will install the originally shipped version of the Intel® Wireless LAN Driver for the Sony VAIO® computers listed below.

    IMPORTANT NOTES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

WARNING!!: This utility is only for use with the following Sony VAIO® Computers

    VGN;VGC;VGX;VPC;SV;

Do not install this utility with any other model of computer (including other Sony computers sold worldwide).

NOTE: During the installation of this update, be sure that you are logged in as the Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.

NOTE: To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.

NOTE: It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions as a reference during the installation process.

Thank you very much for your post espresso, much appreciated.

The Sony is model number VPCF 12S1E - F Series, 64-bit, quad core.

We seem to be approaching 50% of the disc being re-installed. Hoping everything goes alright this time.

Have noted your comments and will follow your advice when the re-installation is completed.

Really appreciate your input. Thank you
