Galaxy tab 2..won't turn on

Evening, please can you help?!

DS has got a Tab 2, and accidently plugged it in using a charger for something else completely.(it just happened to fit but wasn't a samsung cable). He had let the battery run flat but it now won't charge or respond to charging at all.

We have tried it though the laptop to 'trickle charge' it, swapped cables using 2 samsung ones, pressed all the buttons advised online. Nothing seems to be working.
Any bright ideas about what I can try before I take it back saying it won't boot back up!

Many thanks for reading and any advice!

Was laptop turned on or plugged into mains. When you plug it in to charge, does the battery icon appear.

Have you used the charger that it came with and cable, charged over night and then try to switch on, press and hold for about 10 secs or 20 secs or try several times to turn on.

    Thankyou for replying.

The laptop was on and plugged into the mains. I turned off the sleep thing so it stayed on. Nothing. It has been charging, using the charger that it came with, overnight, and again nothing. There is no battery indicator light coming on, no icon flashing up or anything. I have tried everything I have read online but most people are saying that the battery image is coming up. We aren't even getting that.

Its either a faulty battery or the charger has fried something .
    But fried is unlikely .

Permit to guide you over to the Samsung Galaxy forum.

I found this place a few weeks ago and it is more than useful. You might be interested to hear that a number of people, including me, have experienced this issue. Quite often it is resolved by connecting to the power (as if charging) then after a while, press both power and volume (up) simultaneously for about 7 seconds, this shoots it back to life. Go and have a look, join, scroll down to your model and have a read. I find it easier to look at NEW CONTENT by pressing the aptly named new content button to see posts that have been entered since last visit.

    That's reassuring, thankyou.

We have found, and tried everything we could find on the forum you directed me to islandman. I have even tried the factory reset and it doesn't like it.

  • Hi, is it a Tab 2 7.0 or other? It may make a difference.

If you get no joy from the forum, i had this problem once or twice also. Unsure what worked but finally it was plugging it in to the supplied charger and leaving it alone. I'd fiddled around with pressing the buttons in various combinations, tried holding the power button for 60+ seconds and so on. A good one was holding the power & vol (down or up i cant remember) together and then plugging in the charger (a 2 man job obviously!)

Tis a quirky and annoying thing. Be sure not to let it fully discharge again!

You'll get no joy with it charging from a USB port in this low level state, it needs the ampage of the official charger to get anywhere.
good luck, and pls report back when you solve it :)
    Friendly greeting!
  • I see whilst I was typing you had no joy from the forum.
Patience is a virtue here! it may take a few days yet.

Thankyou. It has been charging from the main charger in the wall since 8pm last night. It hasn't been taken out that charger, and it is the one it came with.
I always thought batteries were meant to be run flat and then charged from flat to get the maximum usage out of them...what a donut eh!

I am willing to try everything as I have a very gutted 9yo son at the moment.

Thankyou for all the help and advice, I really appreciate it.

    Xx

    Update!

I have spoken to CPW(where we bought it from) and they have told me to take it into any store and they will try and fix it under the 24 month warranty. They were very helpful and reassured me that it sounds like it has just conked out!!

mcja, I told them on that forum of my recommendation, a guy called wizz has been very useful and friendly with me. At this point I would say "join anyway".

If CPW have made this offer then get in quick. As has been said, report back and give us updates please.
