Through solid concrete floors I had to listen to some bloke doing his gf - the noises were hysterical. We got whistles and cheered when they finished one night.

I rang in work tired one day they'd been that noisy.

The 'whistles' were probably the ppppsssssshhhh as he let the air out of his blow up doll.

My policy on this is to make friends with your neighbours. If you genuinely like each other, you're much more likely to tolerate someone's noise and other quirks. If you have an issue with something, you can discuss it reasonably and look for a solution.

I've lived in terraced houses for years, without any problems. Like the person who posted near the start of the thread, I listen to music all day. I have a record player set up with some nice quality speakers and I like to listen to records as I do stuff around the house. It's always switched off in the evening so doesn't affect anyone's sleep.

My previous neighbour did loads of hoovering and listened to jazz quite loud in the kitchen, and watched some noisy films. The neighbours on the other side had two teenage boys that were fond of running up and down the stairs and slamming doors (and occasionally each other).

In the terraced house before on one side was an old alcoholic who watched films all night and slept during the day. I wore earplugs at night and he was probably passed out all day. On the other side was a young couple who liked loud sex when they were drunk.

In the house I just bought, I enquired carefully about noise when I was viewing the property. The previous owners played guitar and like music, and have had no complaints. There's a family on one side, and a single doctor on the other side. I'll get to know them and be considerate of the doctor neighbour if she's working nights or weird shifts.

I also always, always invite my neighbours if I have a party (and they usually come).
