Die noisy neighbour DIE

in most cases people know if they are being too loud, you don't need to knock on someones door to tell them.
No one here is talking birthday parties etc
Firstly my comment was a general one about noise rather than the OPs scenario, secondly that was an example to put my post into context, if you read my whole post I was talking about give and take. Load music every now and then, fine. Sitting in silence every now and then fine. Thirdly I completely disagree, if people don't say there's a problem why would they stop, some people are completely oblivious and completely wrapped up in their own lives. Again a general comment.
Whilst I sympathise with the OP Purely because We've heard one side of the fence, Wishing someone should die whether said in jest or not is no joke, especially someone the OP probably knows so little about. Said person could be terminally ill for all any of us know.An opinion is just that..... An opinion0 -

I'm sure the OP was just releasing a bit of stress on here.
As you say we know nothing about the neighbour but equally we know little about the OP, and the true extent of the problem, the OP could be at breaking point.
I agree some people don't know they are just loud but most imo do, I lived in a flat where the tenent put music on at 3am, I knock the door and he never even answered, he just turned the music off.
as I said my neighbour throught sanding the bedroom floor at 6am was fine, yet he already knew the TV was a problem, but still did it, even when I got out of bed at 6.30am to complain his comment was "it's only light sanding" and his wife comment was "he only sleeps for 4 hours a night and likes to keep active", no sorry for waking you on a Sunday on your day off
I can only go by my experience and I have found people know if they are noisy and do not like being told, so knocking on doors and having a friendly work all most never works.0 -
Are you sure that it was the boiler that you were actually hearing? And that it wasn't just some other outside noise. I find it extremely unlikely that a boiler would a) be heard from 2 floors up, and b) be switching on and off every 3 minutes.
Exhaust noises from boilers can be heard through open windows, though how noticeable they are depends upon boiler type and the level of other backgrond noise.
If you Google 'boiler short cycling,' you'll find out why a boiler could indeed switch on or off every 3 minutes.0 -

I hear this noise with all windows closed, it's mainly only a problem in winter, when the heating is on.
I think the problem could be, his air intake is on the outside wall on his balcony and my bedroom is under his balcony, so his outside wall where the intake is, is the same wall that runs to my bedroom .
not explained that very well0 -

I haven't actually done voodoo or cast spells in the hope my neighbour would die...honest. I started this thread when I was exhausted and unable to sleep and knew I had to be up early for work the next day. However, I think my neighbour wasn't in last night as I didn't hear a single peep from his flat, not even him walking around (which I have no problem with because expecting my neighbour to float is just silly) so I got 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep...BLISS :T
I have had worse neighbours, when in lived in a different part of the country, where I was so exhausted I fell asleep at my desk as work a few timesI also ended up having to take time off work just to lie on the sofa and sleep during the day because the noise was that bad during the night. They could have died...horribly for all I cared.
I complained to the council about them and it was nice to be believed as I thought I was going mad. Their LL and LA didn't give a toss which the council weren't happy about (this is in Scotland). After gathering evidence they were threatened with an ASBO. Then I had to move for work anyway. The female also claimed she lived alone, perhaps to get a CT discount since she was at university doing teacher training but she didn't.0 -
of course it's personal opinion...I tend to do that, not give someone else's opinion
I did say general noise has to be accepted but a boiler 2 flats up that turns on and off every 3 minutes doesn't.
I think the problem is mainly due to badly build houses/flats, mine is a propose build flat, yet I can hear talking and TVs etc ok they are loud as the people in question are old so do tend to have the TV volume up and talk loudly but even still I shouldn't be able to hear it.
But what do you expect him to do about a noisy boiler? Do you really expect him to shell out over a grand or two to replace his boiler because you can hear it? It's a totally different beast to someone who is actually being downright ignorant and inconsiderate and playing loud music. He's not making his boiler noisy on purpose.
And saying that he should get a plumber out to investigate is just daft. It's a living noise expected when you're in high density residential.0 -

expecting to hear a boiler 2 flats up is not reasonable, and yes If it was my boiler causing someone a problem I would sort the issue out.
To suggest this would cost thousands to sort out is daft, it could be as simple as a bit of insulation or cleaning the boiler out.
Hearing a boiler turn on and rumble for 3 minutes then off for 3 minutes is not something most people have to put up with or would accept.
As said it's only a problem in the winter for a short time as the flat is only used at the weekends but when I have guests and they ask me "who is up stairs hoovering all night, as I thought you said the flat was empty" there is a problem, it's not because I have supersonic hearing.0 -
we just had to move after living 15 years in our home , because of neighbors from hell, they only moved in 15 months ago but made our lives hell, as we where connected to their house no one else so we had all the swearing and abusive shouting as early as 6 in the morning from kids not wanting to go to school, same abusive swearing at night,we spoke to them explaining we could hear them and if they mind keeping it down, his wife and him threaten to burn us alive in our home and burn our car if we complained to council, which we did after them threats, but for some reason he convince them 'they would never say that' even the police didn't want to know,
then after them following my 2 daughters in their car they pull up beside them and called them 'sluts, !!!!!!s and hand jesters ,c--ts, i contacted the police to complain and when they came round after visiting them, told us not to waste police time and that we probably made it up and i got my daughters to lie' so much for police been impartial, i was fuming and my wife was upset, they didn't even take a statement from daughters just went out of our house, that was the last draw and we moved 6 weeks after that 'house exchange', just wanted to get away, so no faith in council or police .0 -
I have to say as well, my parents have been on the other side, as in they were the apparent noisy, anti-social neighbours. They live in a Grade 2 listed terrace in the middle of the city centre. Next door to them is a family of four. The mother must have incredibly acute hearing, she could hear a spider trip up three miles away.
To be fair, they haven't been on the other side of 'this': They weren't unreasonably noisy neighbours by your version of events. They have however been the victim of unreasonable neighbours.
If I was getting that kind of hassle, unjustified, from a neighbour then I would write to them clearly stating that their behaviour is harassment and that if it continues it would be reported to the police.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. OP, I have every sympathy for your situation.
If you haven't alreay, it's definitely worth chekcing out white noise generators - I've found http://simplynoise.com/ (which is free) is pretty good - ypu can set it to oscillate which gives you a surf-type sound - and can also try pink and brown noise to see which works best for you. I was very sceptical but found it really helped me.
I've also found that wax ear plugs are much more effective than the foam kind, if you can wear them comfortably. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
