DD cancelled but bank paid out and charged

Hi,
OP, here's the DD guarantee, which all banks should adhere to, scroll down to bottom.
Says should get immediate refund, so contact your bank.0 -
To be honest, even if you didn't cancel the DD, you should have a cooling off period before another year comes into effect.0

But presumably that's for internal bank use, how does the organisation that requests payment via the DD find out that it's been cancelled?

The ADDACS is supplied to the Service User (Originator) so that they can update their records.
I get mine back in XML so the records look like this:<MessagingAdvice user-number="999999" record-type="A" effective-date="2014-01-28" reference="1234567890ABCDEFGH" payer-name="F J BLOGGS" payer-account-number="98765432" payer-sort-code="112233" reason-code="1" aosn="00000000"></MessagingAdvice>
In this heavily DPA sanitised record, the reason code is 1; this means that the payer cancelled the DDI with their bank.

I work in a bank and I'm with Grumbler.
We'd have had that money put back in their account immediately as the company has no automatic right to reinstate a cancelled D/D.0 -
Absolute rubbish.
It is perfectly legit for companies to collate varying amounts by DD, without the account holder having to create a new DD mandate when the amount changes.
As always, it is the terms and conditions of the service you subscribed to. If they say that amendments can be made by giving sufficient notice, and if the notice is clear, then there is no need to create another DD authorisation.
AHAHAHAHA. So you are saying that if a customer cancels a DD with their bank, (whether or not the contract between the customer and the company being paid has been cancelled) the company is ALLOWED to create a NEW DD mandate and take out funds from the customer's account without the customer permission at the date of the current request?
Not "different amounts on an existing DD mandate" but a whole NEW DD mandate WITHOUT the customer's permission? Seriously? I have no idea what planet you are living on, but hopefully they don't have banks on it.
