Be aware if you do purchase different rims and tyres you may have to make your insurance company aware of it also.

Indeed; most insurers are fine with winter tyres, they don't feel the same way about alternative wheels for those tyres (trying to go from 18" standards to 15/16" manufacturer alloys almost tripled my insurance premiums).

whilst I agree, it's not a proper 4x4 and I wouldn't waste my money on the 4x4 version, the Qashqai is far more that a town car for school runs, I live in a rural area and often have to negotiate farm tracks and unmade/poorly maintained private roads, my 2wd Qashqai handles these with ease and will get to places most conventional modern cars can't because of their pathetically low ground clearance. As for being no better than a Micra for the school run, complete bolloxs, we have a Micra as company delivery car, it's tiny inside, has an awfull driving position and is gutless, at least my Qashqai is comfortable, reasonably spacious and has the power where you need it for urban driving.

Because you really need the extra power and ground clearance for an urban school run. Is the micra really that uncomfortable for a 10 minute school run on Tarmac road with a 30mph speed limit or do can't they cope with the odd speed bump?
  • Can I ask a question, are you one of the lucky 20% who bought a 4x4 that is actually 4x4 or one of the stupid one's who bought a front wheel drive only version, not realising that it wasn't a 4x4 ?
  • Who's that question directed at? I've not bought mine yet but I'm thinking of getting the 4WD version.

It was directed at the woman who lives opposite who told me that her AUDI should be good in the snow, because it's got 4 wheel drive, and she knows that by the 4 rings on the grill. :D
And the man next door to her who couldn't drive his FWD quashcow in the snow. Despite the fact that there isn't a hill for miles. :j

But I salute you. I'm thinking that Nissan most likely have a technical department you might contact.

I missed that bit, so interstellaflyers isn't even a 4x4 yet alone a proper one.

Why do people but them? Must be to pose or they haven't got a clue what they are buying. Bit like buying a Land Rover without four wheel drive.

Ground clearance is important to some people for rutted roads but it doesn't require 4x4 drive.

Higher seating position for people with bad backs or other medical conditions that don't require them to go adventuring but allows them to get out and about.

    "View" of the road ahead.

Just a few reasons why people will buy a "crossover" 2 wheel drive version of said cars.

An imprezza is 4wd but it'll still be shafted when it has to ford a small stream where said 2x4 with additional clearance will manage it.

    Correct tool for correct job.
    Just a thought.

A 45 profile tyre will have a harsh ride and the limited tyre sidewall mean offroad = a low kerb. Otherwise your going to risk those alloys.

Dont forget Renault wheels may fit <sniggers>

  • So I need a set of winter / off road tyres? Can someone advise on actual sizes so I can price them up?
