It's a designer town car, what do you expect? Not many of them will be used to anywhere near their potential as a 4x4 and would be no better on the school run than a micra.0 -
Get the Acenta with 17" Alloys and spec it up?
19" Wheels on a Qashqai is overkill anyway and will give a poor ride.0 -
I have a simple maths formula..
"IF wintertyres (equal too or greater than) car insurance excess, then don't buy winter tyres".
"IF wintertyres (less than) car insurance excess, purchase winter tyres".0 -
As a Qashqai owner of 4 years, who's never purchased Winter tyres... just drive slower and be more careful!
The thing drives pretty well in icy conditions so we've never felt the need, even when it's snowed quite heavily. We have the '360' 2L Petrol 2WD automatic version.
God bless wrap around cameras0 -

You could always get something else, or get some 20" wheels for the winter.0 -
I didn't realise how much difference winter tyres make until watching some of the YouTube videos (you know, I might one day need to drive to the top of a ski slope). My partner's parents live quite high up and most winters it snows there so much that they get snowed in for weeks. That's really the only place 4WD with winter tyres will be helpful.
I could get the car this weekend if I went with Westway Nissan but I'm not sure if they are just ripping me off:

I just like having the Tekna because I hate knowing there are options that I haven't got (silly I know) plus the 19" tyres do look great.0 -

Where do your out laws live? I didn't know there was anywhere in the uk where you got snowed in for weeks on a regular basis. If it's that bad maybe the Nissan isn't up to it.0 -
They live in Mossley and they get quite heavy snow but as well as that I'm considering getting a caravan so just thought 4WD was a good idea when dragging something across a field.0

No, winter tyres will be helpful everywhere, from November to March in the UK.
It's NOT just about snow. It's about wet leaves, low temperatures, and water logged roads.
Give me a 2WD car on winters over a 4WD/AWD car on summer oriented or even all round tyres ANY DAY in cold wet conditions.
OP is very sensible to consider getting them from the outset, he just needs to find the right size combinations.0 -

whilst I agree, it's not a proper 4x4 and I wouldn't waste my money on the 4x4 version, the Qashqai is far more that a town car for school runs, I live in a rural area and often have to negotiate farm tracks and unmade/poorly maintained private roads, my 2wd Qashqai handles these with ease and will get to places most conventional modern cars can't because of their pathetically low ground clearance. As for being no better than a Micra for the school run, complete bolloxs, we have a Micra as company delivery car, it's tiny inside, has an awfull driving position and is gutless, at least my Qashqai is comfortable, reasonably spacious and has the power where you need it for urban driving.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
