Because, as I said, if pressure is brought. Rather than saying "because I don't want to!"

    Why not? .......

Trouble is, with his apparent history, lack of keys may be no problem ;)

Perfectly true, but with no keys given to him, the OP has the perfect explanation if she ever had any comeback from plod or the DVLA about him driving the vehicle. The car would have to be hot-wired and/or the steering lock broken, which are certain signs of a stolen car.

    +1 for No.
I wouldn't lend my car, no matter to whom, with whatever motoring history as it is *mine*.
Currently it's SORN'ed etc - but if you have to rush a child to A&E (may it never happen) you have the tool to do the job.
Everyone else has the right legal ideas - I wouldn't lend in the same mental breath as I don't lend shoes. I've not that many pairs, they fit me, it's personal.

You are allowed to say No. It is Your car.

His transport problems are exactly that - his.

You wouldn't ring 999 for an ambulance then? after all, as well as looking after your child and being there in minutes, they can also run red lights and get to A+E quicker than you could driving illegally :)

Another thought has just occurred to me.

Why not put all the keys to the vehicle away in a safe place and let everyone know that you have lost them and cannot find them anywhere.

And then, if any pressure is placed on you, you have the perfect explanation for not letting him have the car.

That would be an impressively dumb plan. For starters he's pretty much bound to assume the OP is lying (who seriously totally loses their car keys?), which would just aggrevate your hypothethical situation.

Just about anybody who's had to make a claim on their key insurance. Plus all those who've started threads on the MSE motoring forum about losing their keys and asking where they can get new ones.

Are you seriously telling me you don't know anybody who's lost their keys?

  • ha, he plans to "front" his new insurance on your car.

    Tell him "no".

A poster summed it up well above - his transport problems are indeed his problems, not yours.

Look on the bright side OP - at least he is an ex.

Who would want to be involved with someone who has spent years breaking the law and wants to continue to do so by fronting?
