My wife and I got sent a voucher and there is nothing unique about them,,,, its just a generic voucher.

NO UK optician will give you a prescription without a valid checkup in the last 12 months. This is because it isn't safe to do so.
The are behaving legally and responsibly (from what I understand from your post).
You would find the same with ANY optician and ANY contact lense dispensing firm in the UK.

Did they actually state that it was the same or was this an assumption on your part?
Many people (like me) have different prescriptions from glasses and lenses.
There are many reasons for this but one of them is that spectacle lenses can be made to ANY specification whereas contact lenses come in only certain specifications.

2 weeks seems plenty of time to get a new appointment.
You will be quicker going to specsavers as they have your history and won't ahve to start from scratch.
However you can go anywhere.
With the number of opticians around I don't see any reason that you can't get sorted in that time.
If your eyes haven't changed then it will be a quick check up and then you can order there and then.

I have no connection with specsavers (except satisfied customer) but I can't honestly see what they've done wrong.
All they have done is followed the law and good safe optical practice which is what you'd expect from them isn't it?
