id definitely go back to the company who ran the comp and tell them there was an innocent mix up and point out that you didnt receive a winning email or call as per their terms and conditions

Were all of the missed calls definitely just the delivery company? I would say you have a very strong case, if you can tell for certain that none of those missed calls were the magazine advising of a win because the fact that the courier had your phone number proves that they had it too, and thus had the opportunity to notify you.

Erm what exactly has my bankruptcy got to do with this thread?? clearly you have nothing better to do than to scroll through all my old posts! anything else you wish to add? perhaps everyone would like to know that I also post under the 16/8 diet thread...

I was about to delete this thread but then thought no I won't give the satisfaction! to whoever it was who called me lazy or cant be bothered etc like I said I do not have time for goodness sake I am out of the house around 60 hours a week WORKING or TRAVELLING TO SAID PLACE OF WORK! come weekends I have other things to do just like everybody else, I have very little spare time so the spare time I do have is given to partner so we can do things together am pretty sure he would soon get annoyed with me tapping away at a keyboard for hours. Some of the responses are just ridiculous yet I am amused as to how many pm's I have received asking for further details of the subscription company I use!

For the record what happened was that the delivery company rang me on friday to arrange a date for delivery so I having not been told by the comp organisers that I had won I queried it, I had another call shortly after to say yes I had won and that this firm were going to dispatch the gym equipment to me, all good and well until today I get another phone call to say erm actually no because you queried it with the delivery company the prize has now been passed to the next person on the list. I found out this afternoon the competition closed on 3rd october so even if I had been told at the time I still probably would have queried it. I have sent an email to the magazine editor to ask for it to be investigated so will see what happens

For all of you have kindly taken time to reply with helpful info or words of support I am very grateful thank you but wont be replying to this again as I can see where its going. Good luck to you nice people and hope you have some great wins come your way

can't say I saw any "hateful"ness. People were expressing their views about these types of services as well as opining on exactly how these services go about abiding by T&Cs while still doing business.

How can asking a question make you lose the prize?

Sorry but if people wish to choose hours entering competitions then that is their own personal choice

Believe it or not - but I am trying to be helpful (even though I think automated entries are having a detrimental effect on internet competitions).

The question I would ask is do you think you might have missed a winning email WEM ( direct from the magazine) with regard to that win?

I think it would be unusual with any prize that is sizeable or expensive that the first contact with the winner is made by the delivery company.

Competitions do generate a lot of junk or spam emails and it is easy to delete the lot without spotting the Winning Emails amongst them.

If as you say you work and commute long hours then deleting a winning email might be an easy thing to do.

I know - I once almost missed a WEM as I often work very long hours myself as I am sure many others here do too.

    Hi,

As has been said previously, it seems a little odd they decided to transfer your prize to someone else because you queried it! Though if the courier is rubbish, Yodel or similar, it might be that they just took your query to mean 'refused delivery' incorrectly in which case the promoter may have believed this and automaticaly sent on to the next in line. Hopefully they wouldn't be so silly!

As for people judging you for paying someone to enter competitions for you, I don't think that's relevant at all to the question that's been asked....the fact is you stood as much chance as anyone else and won and therefore deserve your prize.

They carry on doing it even when the rules specifically forbid it.

I had a look what claims to be the biggest player in this market and tracked down half a dozen of the competitions they had entered.
Not one of them had a restriction to stop them entering, they also had no cash prizes so clearly were not doing the itv comps where there is the restriction. (They also state they do not enter "If a company bars collective or multiple entries")

Wouldn't pay them myself but if they follow the rules it's not much different to say spending money on a lottery ticket ie mostly wasted unless you win but legal (they appear to do less than 60 entries per week)
  • I still disagree with the above as from a promoters point of view you want the product to be seen from potential customers which is obviously not the case if a 3rd party is entering, however I do feel a lot on here re: Bankruptcy etc is irrelevant

On the matter in hand though if you post which magazine it came from then the chances are it will be on here so will be able to search it and give better advice on the correct person to contact
