Hi Bexster
Thanks for your comments - sometimes I feel like I am out here in forum land on my own. Good to hear from you.
I've been trying for a couple of years to find a new job - and I am not having any joy.
My ISA now has £2500 in it, and I've opened a Nationwide account and put £2500 in there. My ISA was getting a pitiful 1.30% tax free, Nationwide 4.89% net. So I figure that would be making my money work harder.
When I get the £6430 net (rough maths £4300 net) lump sum I will use £1,000 as an OP and stick the rest in the Nationwide account.
Any more advice would be gratefully received - have days where I feel completely out of my depth - so anything would be awesome.

FLC if you send me a PM with your email address I can send you a copy of my overpayments spreadsheet. It's clunky but I find it easier to use than locoblades (which admittedly is much more shiny
). If you can tell me the balance at x date, what your monthly payment is and what your interest rate is I'll tailor it for you. You can record one-off overpayments on it, and also regular ones (when you are able to) and it shows when your end date is. You can also add your savings to it - by way of an offset mortgage or a simple savings account - if you want to take those into account.
As you're feeling a bit low if you give me your house value and what your starting mortgage was I'll do something else for you.
Did you get an answer to the overpaying by credit card question? I'm very 'lucky' (i.e. much older and saved like billy-o) to have less than 15k left - we do have an interest free credit card with around 8k to play with
.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Hi FLC
I hear you with poor ISA rates. I agree as a fellow basic rate tax payer it is often better to use high interest taxable accounts. I'm sorry job hunt hasn't been successful. Maybe as the market improves - did you mention you are in retail? Not a great sector I imagine at the moment. I'm not sure I have loads of advice, but just keep going, however slow it feels. I hope you are able to enjoy baby FLC whilst worrying about finances. You seem in not bad savings shape and I think you said OH returns to work this month so that will help. Also, selling baby FLCs stuff as they outgrow it ( unless saving it for another) will help keep costs of running a small creature down.
Keep smiling, I bet loads of people are reading, just not posting. You may not know it but most MFWs are inspirational to many who lurk on these boards!

HI FLC, just wanted to say hi too as i have been enjoying your diary! I don't post very often and we are now looking at how we can pay off our mortgage in the next 17 years or less.
Fingers crossed re. a new job.
Gallygirl - I have cheekily sent you a PM with a request for your spreadsheet as I have been foxed by the offset element of our account when trying to set up my own. Thanks in advance0 -
Thanks GallyGirl
Just sent my very first PM!
Mortgage was £108,000 when we remortgaged with Virgin to get cash to do up house for little FLC arrival.
We are 15 years 11 months from MF, but that would have me just a few months away from 56, eeek.
Not had a chance to phone Tesco a Bank yet about op on cc. I get approx two hours after work to look at "my list", and it's simply not long enough lolMortgage: 01/02/14 - £108k

Thanks for the support Bexster. Can seem a lonely road this one.
We have a pregnant family friend who donated a lot of stuff to us when FLC was on way, think the favour will be returned - so unable to sell.
Every step is s step closer. Just keep swimming, as Dory would say!!Mortgage: 01/02/14 - £108k

Hi MilitaryTwins
Thanks, good luck with 17 years - seems a long time, but the last few years here have gone in a blink of an eye.
I look fed to reading your diary soon

Hi all
Just had confirmation from Virgin Money about the £1000 OP I made last week.
Just concerned that the wording says £1000 off Capital. Is this correct?
Just overthinking everything (again) I'm always doing this!
And thanks Gallygirl for the spreadsheet - confused that it doesn't tally up with the statement from Virgin, but its giving me a clearer picture and something to focus on.
Cheers all

Hi Gg
That would explain it - didn't mean it to come across ungrateful. The spreadsheet is great, can't get it to work 100% as I lost the hard disk on laptop and cannot find install disks for office, so currently running Open Office which doesn't do everything Excel can do.
Yeah currently gonna b mortgage free when I'm 54, nearly 55, really want to get as close to 50 as I can; but still enjoy watching little FLC grow up.
Not spending all week at work, etc.
So the challenge has begun!!!!Mortgage: 01/02/14 - £108k
