Sometimes it seems like a lonely journey, comments like that mean a lot.
I've just cashed in £38 from quidco, will build it up and make another OP soon.
We have £10k in savings, just in case little flc has a brother or sister, but I feel I could get the money to work harder for me.
    Thanks again for the motivation.

  • So, I've realised that I was not getting the most of my savings.
I had £3900 in the Nationwide, and £3000 in my TSB. After a little research I realised I was not getting any interest over the £2500 in Nationwide and £2000 in the TSB.
So I have shifted anything extra in to my Virgin Isa - only getting 1.3% but better than the 0% it was earning.
I feel the plan for the future would be open a Santander 123 account, but we are taking little FLC on her first holiday on Friday so time is disappearing rapidly.
Annoyed that I have missed this on my savings - thought I was doing well, still so much to learn!!

The interest you'll get on the extra is pretty paltry so don't beat yourself up. £2,400 @ 1.3% is around £30 for the year - one lunch out and you've blown it :rotfl:. You're getting it now which is the main thing :T.

    Enjoy your holibobs :D.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    Currently its:
    Nationwide: £2499
    TSB: £2000
    ISA: £3800

These are our emergency fund to fall back on, it would be nice to use as an OP - but we need cash, just incase Little FLC finds a brother or a sister at the bottom of the garden!

Mortgage still sits at £97k on 2.59% - we are fixed in till Feb '17.

Managed to find a few little steps on my outgoings where we can cut back.
Simply Health - paying them £39 per month, rarely use them - thankfully!
Gym - going in to hospital for a routine op, but means it will be no gym for two months, the gym has suspended my membership for that time. Another £39!
Mobile phone - out of contract in june, will drop it to a sim deal and save £20 per month.

    All for now.

  • Thanks for your post Optimistic-Mummy
Posting from a very hot Minorca - currently 20 degrees stirs not 9am yet!
Holiday is fantastic, like FLC is loving the sunshine, something rarely seen in Scotland!
Mr & Mrs FLC are all relaxed and tanned.
I'm still having thoughts on how to cut back on our SOA and will post on here when I've re done it.
Currently paying £80 to EON, but I think it's time for a change, only stayed with them for the Clubcard vouchers - but I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives out there!
Ciao - not Spanish, but close enough

  • Hi all
Back yesterday from a fabulous holiday. I was concerned, first holiday with little FLC, so much to remember - but she had a blast, loved it.
Now back to torrential wind and rain!
    ...and the mortgage.
Was paid yesterday and received a nice £100 tax rebate - due to the lump sum I received last month pushing me in to the 40% tax bracket.
Not sure if thats it, or I will get more rebates - hopefully more!
So we have squirrelled away £11k into three accounts - Nationwide, TSB and a Virgin ISA - the ISA is only getting 1.30% so plan is to open 1,2,3 account and use that to generate more interest!
    Hope every one is well.
Looking forward to getting the mortgage shrunk!

  • Hi all
This is something I meant to post earlier, but forgot.

What advice would you give your younger self when you started this journey?

I would have told myself to have OP'd a lot sooner, I had a very high paying job in my 20's and I squandered a lot of it - I kick myself now when I think where I could be on the cusp of turning 40!

  • Hi all
    How are you all doing?
A question, I'm forever wondering if my money is working hard enough for me.
I have shuffled it about so I am currently:
    £2000 - TSB
    £2500 - Nationwide
    £7000 - Virgin ISA 1.3%

I was considering moving the ISA to the Santander 1,2,3 account. Would this earn me significantly more interest?

In other news, Virgin are annoying me - their Mortgage Balance page only available from 8am till 7pm - Little FLC has me running about most of the day, these days - I only get a chance to do money-stuff after 9pm!!!!

  • Hi All
Well, I am currently off work at the moment, just a routine operation, but signed off for four weeks.
I am trying to spend the time as productively as possible.
Opened a 1,2,3 account yesterday, that will take my ISA money once it is fully open, and the Nationwide money, when the one year bonus rate ends.
Other than that, I am reviewing all the regular payments - was going to leave Sky Sports - something I can live with out, but they reduced my bill by £20 per year, so kept it for a little while longer.
Going to drop my mobile contract down to a SIM only deal, saving another £20, and will be saving approx £100 by not driving to work.
    It all adds up.
    How is everyone else doing?
