ebay any day over gumtree. on gumtree you have no idea who youre dealing with. ebay feedback gives you a decent overview of a buyer.

Why do you need any idea of who is buying a car off of you ?
As long as they have the cash and they offer an amount you are prepared to accept does it matter who or what they are ?

It's not a matter of knowing who it is, there are unreliable buyers, after all it could be someone from abroad who writes to you saying the car is ideal for a relative and they will send somebody with a cheque for more than the asking price......... you don't need much imagination to know what happens next.

yeah, gumtree is often full of unreliable buyers. On the same token the buyer does not know if you're a scammer or a legitimate seller either so it creates an awkward trading environment.

On ebay, you can both have 300+ glowing feedbacks and know you're dealing with a legitimate party. Everything goes smoother and you trust the other party a bit more which facilitates the trade.

Also gumtree is full of time wasters. Gumtree buyers are looking for a bargain I find.

Hello all I have only just joined to get some advice.
I listed my renault clio about this time last week on Gumtree but have failed to sell it.
    I got :
3 offers from what I think are dealers trying their luck.
    4 scam artists
    0 phone calls :(
So now I am at the point of willing to pay to sell but want serious buyers. My question is where am I more likely to sell a Clio for £2500?.. AutoTrader or Pistonheads?

Sounds about right. You need to renew the ad weekly and it may take several weeks. Price is very critical these days and if your car is not within the 10% lowest price within about 100 mile radius the phone wont ring.

EDIT : just spotted you subsequently sold your car!

When i was motor trading full time i was selling about 80% of my cars (20 or so a month in the price band £1000 to £5000) via gumtree, even though i was using other advertising sources too.

Yes, it does attract a lot of morons, but it does produce results too.

Its only been a week! Be a little more patient, people may offer less if you seem too keen to sell quickly.

Is the car properly priced? ie Comparable with others of the same model/similar year & condition.

Autotrader always worked well for me.
