Here's the nigella recipe for anyone else. May make tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

Hello PurpleFairy
Love your name, and of course it is lovely to have you popping in here
:j :j especially with such excellent ideas and recipe posting skills :j :j
No the biscuits didn't kill me (and I ate rather a lot of them... and I gave a jar to my dad for a late Christmas present too) :j
Thanks again for hoover suggestion. I normally buh everthing second hand but for some reason was just heading off to Argos for this. So pleased with cheery multicoloured Dyson although will have to get used to its power - had to stop to rescue several scarves and the bloody thing unravelled part lf the mat by the back door and a chunk oht of the carpet at the bottom of the stairs!
Suspect it will be easier when I'm not trying to hoover round boxes and DIY equipment:rotfl:
Spent all last evening setting up a budget spreadsheet for my mum. Initially tried her on YNAB so I didn't have tobut she just wasn't getting it and I just can't provide IT support for that over the phone
Instead I've done a fairly straightforward spreadsheet (although it took us several hours to figure out what she wanted to do and put that into useable spreadsheet form!) - she's under strict instructions about which coloured boxes she's allowed to enter things in and which she meeds to leave alone (cos they've got formulas in)
Have done it as a shared google docs spreadsheet so if necessary I can talk her through things (and fix it!) from home while she's on the phone (she's 2 hours away and I'm not driving over here just to fix that! ) :rotfl:
Quite proud of it in the end :rotfl:
Suspect i'll be slightly less proud of my half marathon this morning... :rotfl: Will still get a medal though:rotfl:

Well, we finished, just about in one piece
Got drenched at one point  and it wasn't pretty, and we were nowhere near our fastest time :rotfl: but we had a laugh, got a medal and a t shirt, and a free hog roast at the end (as a vegetarian of 16 years this was of no interest to me, but I donated mine to my mother who was most pleased :rotfl: )
Took flapjack and a flask of tea for the end of the race so Uber Frugal January is still well in force :money:
Have defrosted soup for tomorrow's lunch, and set the timer on the breadmaker so I'll wake up to fresh bread :j :j Have also made a batch of biscuits to last all week at work, and packed a tub of natural yogurt. Aiming to not buy food on the way to/from work all week
Just about to check cupboards etc and do a meal plan for next week so Mr Cheery can go shopping :j Hang on, will write an inventory...0 -
CURRENTLY GOT:
Fridge
- loads of carrots
- couple parsnips
- handful mushrooms
- milk
- one tub natural yogurt
- 4 small pots yogurt
Freezer
- 4 lots of soup for work lunches
- pizza dough
- loads of green beans
- cooked rice
- damsons (really must do something with them - they've been in there over a year! )
Veg
- 4 heads garlic
- 6 onions
- LOADS (like really loads) of potatoes :rotfl:
Other stuff
- 2 packets curry sauce
- one tin tomatoes
- 3 eggs
- rice (normal and risotto)
- pasta
- egg noodles
- spaghetti
- assorted spices, condiments etc
So, this is the plan (we don't assign days, just see what takes our fancy)
- pizza (need pasatta, mozzarella, cheddar)
- mushroom risotto (need risotto rice, mushrooms)
- baked potato and dahl
- pasta bake (need eggs, quark)
- soup and dumplings (need flour)
- stir fry and rice (need chick peas)
- shepherds pie (sorry, can't get my head round calling it gardeners pie, suspect it'll forever stay shepherds pie here, despite the lack of shepherds in it)
- curry and rice
Yes, I know that's 8, but it gives us a spare one in case we go shopping a day late, or don't fancy the one that's left :rotfl:
Breakfasts: porridge, sultanas
Lunches
Me: soup from freezer, home made bread
Mr Cheery: bread, beans, eggs, fish
Right, best write this list! :j0 -
We had some sort of pie today using up last week's leftovers - ours did not have shepherd in it either! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: (but I'm not saying it was vegetarian

Ah-ha - yes, my method of meal planning is also to start from a position of listing the stuff I want to use up! (And in fact the, start of your fridge list could equally well have been mine!) I also have a cupboard discovery that I think ought to join your cocoa powder in the MSE Hall of Fame - a sachet of blackcurrant jelly crystals which were best before March 2004!
Well done on your race - and also on taking the provisions to avoid spends! :T🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Ha, are you going to use them EH?? Go on! I made another batch of biscuits with that cocoa powder earlier :j there's still enough for three more batches! :rotfl:
Mmmmm - pie
Legs feel like someones take the joints apart and not quite put them back together properly :rotfl:
Accidentally mistimed bread machine so it looks like I'm going to get woken up by the smell of freshly baked bread - at 6.30am  :rotfl: idiot! Oh well, I've not been to work for a fortnight, I'm sure there'll be no shortage of thigs to do if I get there early! :rotfl:0 -
Found some cocoa in the back of my baking cupboard and made microwave mug cake yesterday evening! Given the poshness of the brand I'm 100% sure it was inherited (unless it was yellow stickered) - either way it was well out of date but delicious nonetheless. OH says he's dedicating this mornings treadmill session to working off the 800 calories that were in his helping of mug cake!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I think that it is brilliant that you contemplated a half-marathon, took provisions, completed the marathon, and made sure that there was no food waste on your watch, by donating your portion to someone that could appreciate it!
