O.K I wouldn't quite go so far as to say vile but some of the brewed stuff is rather errrr strong.
I think the main point I was going to make was that it seems de rigour to hate Starbucks but when you actually look at what they offer its significantly better than Costa. Starbucks is 100% fair-trade whereas Costa hides behind "Rain forrest Alliance" corporate green wash sham. Starbucks pay their workers more yet charge less for their coffee. I like that fact that I can pour the milk into my coffee whereas with Costa its like it or lump it. Also the Loyalty scheme at Costa is stingy beyond belief. You'd need to spend £8 to get a single free shot of coffee at Costa. Pay with a free Starbucks card and you get an extra shot free.
I don't drink that much coffee but I'd highly recommend seeking out a Starbucks with 'Clover' its blow your socks off good coffee even coffee freaks rave about it.0 -

I don't take milk in my coffee and have never had it foisted upon me.Also the Loyalty scheme at Costa is stingy beyond belief. You'd need to spend £8 to get a single free shot of coffee at Costa. Pay with a free Starbucks card and you get an extra shot free.
What's the point in using a coffee bar purely for their loyalty scheme if you can't stand their coffee? :rotfl:“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I don't drink espresso, but my OH only drinks 'proper' espresso (it has to be short and strong), stopped buying from Costa/Caffe Nero (not, starbucks won't do, their espresso is ghastly apparently). Now we save a fortune by making it at home with a De Longhi coffee machine and taking it to work in a small flask (won't go into the palaver that was choosing the right machine, or even the right coffee, only one brand will do and nothing else...).
No instant coffee in the world can replicate espresso, but I'm not that fussy, just like a decent strong instant and I'm happy.0 -

Exactly! As long as the OP is happy then who cares?
What makes me laugh is all these so called coffee snobs that really do not have a clue! Waffling on about carte noir and douwe egberts when they clearly have no clue, but the same applies to them as long as they are happy with their supermarket slop instant coffee then who cares? I just wish they would quit trying to better an belittle people when they themselves are a complete embarrassment! Just because something comes in a pretty jar and is more expensive than the other coffee's on the supermarket shelf, does not mean it is a premium product in any way, truth be known all supermarket coffee is crap and that includes the beans and ground but let them continue embarrassing themselves if nothing else it is entertainment
And so far as the big chain coffee shops, well if you drink at any of them then you are proving you know nothing about coffee!"You can measure a man's character by the choices he makes under pressure"Sir Winston Churchill0 -

Can someone tell me what mellow birds actually tastes like? I've never had it so have no idea

Not far off hot milk that's had a couple grains of instant thrown in. It's an okay drink in its own right, but isn't in any way a like for like product so the fact you can save money drinking it compared to stark bucks becomes akin to saving money by rowing to the USA rather than catching a plane. Yes you'll save money and if that's your thing fine all good to you, but it doesn't mean it's comparable to air travel.0

To me, Mellow Birds tastes no better than the cheapest, nastiest supermarket own brand coffee. I'm not a coffee snob but it really tastes bitter and unpleasant to me. I'm currently drinking Kenco Rappor which I got from Poundstretchers for £1.49 (100g jar).
I don't think you've had mellow birds, they specially select mellow beans and do a mellow roast so it is not bitter0
