CAPITAL 1 CREDIT CARD - NO INTEREST FREE PERIOD
Beware of the Capital One credit card - offering 1% cashback plus 6 months 0% . This appears to be by inviation.
I paid off all by balance before the end of the 0% interest and started paying off the entire balance by the due date. I was suprised this month to be charged interest.
When I questioned it I was told it's a special card with no grace period - interest is charged from the puchase date until you pay.
I have never heard of a credit card with no grace period before.
I still have all the collateral when I received the card - this feature is not mentioned. The small print has now clue other than the absense of any mention of a grace period.
I am furious

I have never heard of a credit card with no grace period before.(
There's a Lloyds one out (can't remenber the exact one but it's offering 0% on BTs for 12 months) that's not giving any interest free period on purchases.
Bit of a worrying trend. :-/0 -
They've been around for a while but I honestly cannot see any use for them outside an intro offer.0

If you clivk the amex blue link at bottom of 22nd September article introductory offer not available it only gives you .5% up to £2k and 1% thereafter. how do you get intro offer of 2%0

Re, New John Lewis Partnership card
I changed from my original JLP card to their new one a couple of months ago. However, they are now offering a £10 voucher to customers who change.
I complained about this to the young lady promoting this new offer in JLP Nottingham yesterday and she told me to telephone the number of customer services on the back of my card. This I have done and low and behold, after complaining and saying that I would be cutting up my JLP card, I am going to get a £10 voucher.
However I had to smile to myself as the person on the other end of the phone told me not to tell anyone that they had done this just for me (Oh Yea really!!)I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -
Save cash at Crimbo on credit cards
If you want short-term gain, instead of waiting until your Amex anniversary, get yourself the Nationwide reward card (via Martin's link of course)
Their cashback is paid in December, rather than on your application anniversary. Comes in handy for cutting costs of Crimbo pressies etc.Snootchie Bootchies!0 -
Hello all
I'm sure Martin has looked into this and sure if I applied for the relevant cards I would find the answer in the small print.
If I have an Amex plat card, does it allow ballance transfers ( or super balance for that matter ) and if so does that count as spending on the card when it comes to getting cashback. As this card isn't accepted everywhere it would be a great boon to be able to use it to pay off the other card spending you've had to make because of it.
Kinda suspect they wouldn't leave a loophole like this but it would be interesting to know if there is a card company that hasn't seen this. It would certainly add an interesting twist to Martin's free cash system.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but I've read around the site and haven't found a specific answer to this question ( that's not to say the answer isn't on the site somewhere ) and my curiosity just got the better of me.0 -
Nice try curious-monkye but no cigar ;D
A quick cut and paste from the rewards article extended feature (the big one with all the full stuff)
"Rewards schemes are usually only for spending, not balance transfers (debt shifted from one card to another to get a lower interest rate), with the AOL card and Co-op Dividend card being very rare exceptions."Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Has anybody got a RBS 'American Airlines Advantage' gold card. They have a good offer at the moment giving 6,500 miles immediate credit and a short term 10% off flights until early December.
Problem is that they tell me they have run out of application packs and I have now been waiting over 3 weeks. As I had hoped to go to Florida in November, I am left wondering whether to just go ahead an book flights in the normal way.
Not an offer at all if you can't get the card!!!
Anybody else tried to get one?Filiss0 -
There was an error in JohalaReewi's post of 28th Sept on the rewards from using the Tesco credit card. Note that the credit card acts as a Clubcard. You cannot get extra points by using a Clubcard together with the credit card.
You'll earn 3 points for every £2 spent in a Tesco store and 1 point for every £2 spent everywhere else that you use your card. So that's 1.5% reward for instore (or Tesco on-line) purchases. If you use the points to purchase Deals (holidays, magazine subscriptions etc) rather than spending them as cash instore, you get four times the value (ie 6% reward).
For non-Tesco purchases using the credit card, the rewards are 0.5% (2% via Deals).
As a newTesco credit card user, I wish I'd done this earlier.0
