Not rubbish....
I just spoke with them, the representative told me categorically that Ebay gadgets would not be covered by travel insurance.
I cant understand why the retailers country of origin is relevant to the insurer, surely ebay is just another retailer albeit with a different model to say John Lewis.0 -
This exclusion is stated on their webpage
http://www.insurefor.com/question (about 3/4 of the way down the page under the gadget insurance questions)Am I covered if I bought my electronic item from an auction site?
No, this policy does not cover items purchased from online auctions.0 -

So if you buy from a retailer at a fixed price on Ebay then the exclusion doesn't apply. Buy a laptop from the PC World storefront on Ebay then it's not an "online auction" and no different to buying from their own website.0 -
Says online auction site. Looks like a nasty little clause to catch people out. How horrible.
Can everyone write insurefor.com and insurefor in their posts? That will get this thread shown up in search engines and hopefully stop some people taking insurance out with this company.0 -

Why have you totally ignored the other comments though?
Things like "I'd suggest asking them where, in the policy wording on their website" - it could help clarify the sweeping statement made by a lowly telehpone agent and repeated by you.

I totally agree that in general it appears to be an unreasonable exclusion, but then again, many insurance companies aren't reasonable when it comes to having terms to avoid paying out.
IMO, It would be fairer to limit the ebay exclusion to second hand items and items bought from private sellers.
Then again, that exclusion may not be enforceable as I only found it in the Q&A page. If it's not shown on the policy T&C's or on the policy paperwork, there is no way to show that an insurance purchaser was made aware of and agreed to it.0 -

On their main 'gadget insurance' webpage, it only says this:
What is NOT covered by gadget travel insurance?- Loss of any kind
- Reconnection costs or subscription fees
- The cost of replacing any software or downloads
- Any expenses incurred as a result of not being able to use the device for the period covered
One would hope that such an important piece of information might be made available at this stage
There is no mention of it under 'Significant or unusual exclusions and limitations' on the Key Facts document, neither can I see it mentioned under 'what is not covered' or 'special conditions' on the policy document.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Their website is fairly irrelevant and it is purely the terms of the policy which dont state anything about the country of origin or auctinos0
