Are we even trying the right trade for installing a sump pump?

"still not got that sorted" you ask - no.
Tried one builder guy who said he could do it & would quote us the following week. He never got back as promised. He was a joker anyway & even if he had got back he most certainly wouldn't have got the job.
Tried another who wouldn't do it.
Tried another - said he was too busy but he'd "take a look at it" if we wanted. The fact he couldn't fit us in until July at the earliest meant this was a no go. We need it sorting now.
Tried another who said his team had no experience of that so didn't want to take the job on. He suggested we should actually try a plumber.
The last chap made me wonder if trying a builder is even the right road to go down.
Basically a sump pump is already installed but we have no idea how old it is or if it's working properly. We'd like it replacing with a new one & have the wiring brought above the floorboards. Hopefully have some sort of alarm wired in so that when it goes duff it beeps or something similar.
& aside from removing one door, that's basically all we're needing. We could get a plasterer to do the plastering job.
Folk seem to either have no clue or not much clue. Would you keep persevering with a builder or is this really one for another profession, such as a plumber as one builder suggested? I know a plumber can't help us much with our door way but that's not the main issue - we just wanted the door way doing up whilst the [builder] was round doing the pump.
I'm getting more & more tempted to try the mybuilder website, even though i'm very reluctant to go for that & it'd be last resort.

A general builder should do it.
A groundworks or small civils contractor should do the mechanical side of installing the pump and piping, outflow etc but not the electrics or alarms.
Companies that convert basements and do tanking would be able to handle the job, but they usually work on larger projects and would probably be expensive to have out on a small job.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I've nothing against trying a plumber, i just thought i'd ask as i was getting the strong impression we're just getting passed around from dept to dept with nobody having a clue what is what.
We already have an electrician who said she'd wire the whole thing up but she can't actually install the pump itself.
We originally had a quote from Peter Cox for £3k for plastering & supply of skirting. We've since found out this isn't the total solution. I'm half-way tempted to call them & get them in, but £3k is a lot of brass & i think if we can just find some one man band then it could be done for so much cheaper.0 -

Wow! Thank you for your needless attitude. I don't see enough of that during my working day so it's nice to get my daily dose of it on here.0

:rotfl:I think you may need to get used to it as you've had loads and loads of advice on your other thread about what to do about the sump pump yet you still seem to be ignoring it and going of on a tangent:doh:
IT IS NOT A BUILDING JOB and !!!!!! HAS THE PLASTERING AND SKIRTINGS GOT TO DO WITH A PUMP THAT NEEDS CHANGING, and NOT INSTALLING!
YOU ALREADY HAVE ONE INSTALLED AND FROM WHAT YOU HAVE SAID PREVIOUSLY IT WORKS
Is that clear enough so you can read

Have you asked her to recommend someone who can fit the pump? I would have thought she would have the contacts.0 -

Allow me to make things clear enough for YOU so that YOU can read :T
* THE ADVICE ON THE OTHER THREAD WAS TO GET A BUILDER TO SORT THE PUMP. AS HAS BEEN SAID IN THIS THREAD, WE'VE TRIED NUMEROUS ONES. I GUESS YOU MISSED THAT PART OF US ACTUALLY ACTING ON THE ADVICE GIVEN. BUT BECAUSE THE BUILDERS EITHER CAN'T OR WONT DO IT, IT MUST BE OUR FAULT, AHH YEAH, THAT'S IT.
* WE MUST BE IGNORING THE ADVICE YOU SAY? I GUESS SO. IF EMAILING THEM, GETTING A RESPONSE, CALLING THEM, GETTING A RESPONSE, GETTING THEM OUT TO THE HOUSE, HAVING THEM TELL US WHEN THEY'D BE ABLE TO FIT US IN & IF THEY ARE UP TO THE JOB IS IGNORING ADVICE THEN YES WE'VE IGNORED IT ALL. WE MUST HAVE DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS OF IGNORING THOUGH.
* "IT IS NOT A BUILDING JOB" YOU SAY, YET THE ADVICE FROM THIS VERY FORUM THAT YOU SAY WE SHOULD BE TAKING SAYS WE NEED TO GET A BUILDER OUT TO SORT THE SUMP PUMP. MAKE YOUR MIND UP WILL YOU.
* WHAT HAS PLASTERING & SKIRTING GOT TO DO WITH IT? WELL QUITE A LOT TO BE HONEST, BUT QUITE FRANKLY IF YOU CAN'T BE ARSED TO READ THEN I CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO REPEAT MYSELF FOR THE XXXX'TH TIME.
In short, we were advised (once again....) on this very forum to get a builder out to sort the sump pump. We've tried numerous & simply because they seemed clueless i was simply questioning whether this advice was even correct as i didn't expect so many (builders) to be so unsure. Nothing wrong in questioning that at all.
Oh & then there's the other one - if you can't be polite & helpful, then simply please do not bother at all. I'd rather no response than a response with needless attitude.
Now is that any better for YOU or do we need audio & pictures?Have you asked her to recommend someone who can fit the pump? I would have thought she would have the contacts.
Maybe the places you guys live in are full of sump pump specialists, but round here it appears nobody has a clue.0 -
Try a drainage company?lbm 11/06/12 dept total 11499.470

If your having trouble getting a domestic plumber to change the pump, try a commercial plumber.
You could use a small BMS (building management system) control panel to monitor the fault signal from the pump. For this you could use a controls company (BMS)
I fit BMS controls on commercial sites and connect to sump pumps on some sites. But other trades would fit the pump, another sparky would do the power and we do the control.
What you need is multi trades to complete your job if your having trouble finding one trade to do the lot.0
