I loved Pacers. Gutted when they disappeared. Also Wall's Arctic Circles - they did come back briefly in the late 90s I think but they never tasted the same.

And what on earth has happened to Tizer? Tastes like weak fizzy squash now....

I think the same about Lucozade. mum used to buy that if we were poorly. I think the sugar rush made us 'seem' a lot better than we actually were!
at that time the bottles were glass and had an orange cellophane 'wrap'.

anyone remember 'Sanatogen' I can remember an elderly neighbour I ran errands for, sending me over the chemist every day for a bottle of this! 'fortified for the over forties' - I am almost sure that was the 'catchphrase'. well, this lady was in her seventies and as eccentric as hell! she kept half a dozen greyhounds in her garage, and her 'lodger' used to walk them every day! my nan told me when I had 'grown up' that he wasn't really a 'lodger'! I was shocked! my god - people in their seventies!
this lady used to dress in long dresses, all black and with lace, and wore gloves to go out. and I thought of her as 'miss haversham'. rofl. actually she was really nice - I always got a threepence (fortune those days) for running her 'errand'.

You can still get sanatogen wine where Im from (Lanarkshire), mind you buckfast is like water to many people in these parts so not surprising sanatogen is sold. They dont sell buckfast in supermarkets, but I have seen sanatogen tonic wine in tesco.

good grief Pauline! do people still buy it then? I must get hold of some and try it! it certainly did Mrs J a lot of good - she lived til about 94 I believe! or could that be her, um, lifestyle? her 'lodger' only died about a year before her.

I have no idea, but buckfast tonic wine which is very similar I assume is sold by the bucketload in these parts. I remember my mum telling me my gran used to have the occasional glass of buckfast as a tonic and thats how its supposed to be consumed, but people drink buckie by the bottle or two up here. Ive definitely seen sanatogen wine in the supermarket.

If its anything like buckfast you'll need to hold your nose good style if you ever have a drink of it.

you are right! I remember now, Phyllosan fortified the over forties!
I know Sanatogen was a 'fortified' wine (I had visions of a castle and soldiers pointing bows and arrows). now what was their catchphrase? anyone remember?
  • Oh how my sons and I miss Chocolate Lovelies, a frozen dessert with cream on top.

Original Lucozade - today's stuff doesn't taste the same at all.

And on a non-food front, what about French skipping, where two friends would stand with a huge elastic strap forming a rectangle round their legs, whilst you skip, hopped and jumped on, off and over it in a complicated routine, as they hitched the band higher and higher.

Oh, and what about button collecting and swapping in the playground. Was it just my school? Such fun.

    Happy memories, eh?

Fry's chocolate cream that had different fruit flavour creams in each section - delicious, I really miss that choccy bar. There was a strawberry cream, pineapple cream, I think lime, it was lime green colour and I didn't like that one so much, orange cream and I can't remember if the last one was lemon or the usual white cream or a raspberry?! Anyone else got a better memory than me?!

Yes those were the flavours, I loved them too except the pineapple flavour which I hated. Also loved the Fry's peppermint crèmes and used to nibble them to make it last as long as possible.

Unable to purchase Symingtons Table Cream - used to buy this from Morrisons to use in my trifles. Strawberry flavour was a family favourite. Now having to buy blancmange instead and such a waste as my family only want the strawberry flavour - the rest in the packet are consigned to the bin (.ie the other flavour. This has only happened in the last year so wondering if the original firm has gone belly up or just stopped making it.

It appears they were last made by Dr Oetker but have been discontinued. My favourite was the Maple and Walnut flavour, loved the creamy skin that would form on top. I miss them too.
